Because of combination of new job, other life events, and the initial disapointment of 2024 I havent flown in almost a year. What I have I missed?
You missed more disapointment..
Joke apart, the sim has great performance on SU4, but career mode is still broken on almost all sides
As mentioned above, if you do free flight, it’s pretty good, but career mode probably needs a bit of work yet
Free flight is largely problem free now - 90% of flights will likely succeed. Planes like C172 now work great. Career mode still has problems and will likely need another year to get good - I find C208 to be enjoyable to fly.
I think you missed the worst of the frustration from the initial 2024 fiasco, and it’s almost a good time to start again… almost.
I also skipped most of the past 12 months - I sold my Xbox on release of 2024, and began slowly building a PC for MSFS. I took my time because it takes money to build a PC, and, watching the forums it was clear Asobo needed more time to get things working with the new LOD system.
I’ve started flying since Sim Update 3, and SU4 beta testing, and things are definitely improving in terms of the base sim. It seems that much of Asobo’s time and effort has been focussed on the new progressive LOD system and optimizing default scenery. The rest, sadly, is still in poor shape: Jorg said 70 of the 130+ 1st party aircraft would be getting much needed updates (although he didn’t commit to when, some maybe with SU4 release). ATC and default traffic are just broken. I fully expect the next “suprise” to be a revamped ATC / Traffic system, and I think Working Title might have a hand in that. I haven’t touched career mode yet, but hope to once reports are more positive…
I’m hoping by January that I’ll have at least some of the peripherals on my shopping list, and that MSFS 2024 will be mature enough to enjoy with them.
Any new aircraft I should take a look at?
i think this may be a good time to get on board
the worst of the problems are behind us, for me 2020 is no longer an option because they ported the scenery from 2024 back into it, the serious developers are starting to release native 2024 products, so i’m starting to be able to enjoy the good things 2024 has to offer (as the new lighting engine, good stuff) without having to call the psychiatrist
still needs work, in my opinion, ie all the stock aircraft hand fly really bad, but if i stay with the few that fly right, i can manage perfectly decent flying weekends, like in the good ole’ times
Depends what you like to fly, and do you mean 1st or 3rd party?
I made a list of all 130+ 1st party aircraft available in the tiers of MSFS 2024 which might be of interest:
There have been a few new 3rd party planes that are popular, but there are still WASM and SDK issues even now in late stages of Sim Update 4 beta testing, so keep that in mind. I’d check out this thread, trending lately
