Thank you kindly and thank you @CromUK. I must say the add-on content freely available for MSFS is fantastic.
I also was on the fence mainly bc of the $50 price tag.
I think you’ve realize via trying and failing and can’t be done, hence your disagreeing with my theory ceasing.
I can’t make a video of the F15 successfully doing it because my claim is it can’t be done.
However to put more substance into my claim that the Hawk can fly through this canyon and maintain 3700 or below altitude without crashing, I just had two F15 Eagles trying to follow me and even though the F15 was more than likely higher than 3700 altitude, you can see he still was not able to avoid flying into the canyon.
If you can produce a video showing it can be done, not only will I admit I was wrong, but I will think of you as one of it not the most awesome MSFS pilots to ever exist lol.
But, I wasn’t making a statement coming from a place of “whoa is me, I wish I had the skills to do it but alas I’m just a novice and can’t make it work”. I’m coming from a place of someone who has logged over 2k hours into this sim, and have flown many hours with several planes including the ones I mentioned.
Your tip on putting the nose down at approximately 10 degrees was legit though. I’ve been doing it every time and it for sure makes the take offs in the Hawk easier. I’m also learning that with strong winds this light weight Hawk gets tossed around both on the runway and in the air.
Here is a short video where an F15 attempts to fly through the canyon. What happens at 1:20 is exactly what I expected to happen.
Having fun without shooting things down…
The sheer pleasure of flying the Hawk T.1 from Just Flight - in VR - flying around RAF Valley and “commuting” from there all the way to Jersey C.I, where I saw the Red Arrows many years ago. Two of many images captured in the last couple of days
.
There is an Enter Key “top right” above Frequency screen. Hit that, should change from standby to priority.
Whats the best setting for “long range”, I really struggle to get further than 500 NM ![]()
The manual mentions flying at 28,000 ft at a speed of 300kts / Mach 7.3, I managed 1hr 45mins yesterday, approx 650nm before having to land for fuel.
Yup that works perfectly for manual mode but it’s switching between pre-programmed presets that I’m struggling with, flipping between them doesn’t seem to change the frequency even if I hit enter after changing to a different preset.
I’ll consult the manual again later and see if I can get it to work.
One screenshot, and three generations of Royal Air Force jet aircraft… Oh this just keeps on getting better for us Brits of a certain age… Bit like the old phrase from Top Gear, “A certain kind of a gentleman” and his “Jaaaaag”
Thank you Just Flight for the Hawk. Maybe one day the other two?
I haven’t tried yet - got a job to do, y’know? But, seeing as you’ve put the challenge out there, it’s accepted. Might be a while before I can find time to do it though ![]()
I can’t say how much I’d love to see the Lightning. Best display ever to grace an air show in my opinion.
@JoylessTunic738
I should point out that this has been done simply to show how real airplanes fly, not the “arcade” method you have used in your “challenge”. 2K hours in a desktop simulator aren’t worth 20 minutes in a real aircraft, and of course in real life no fast jet would fly through a canyon this narrow.
I did two overhead passes in the F-15 before descending and flying this video through the canyon, completed it first time out and a lot smoother than your attempt ( not to mention more realistically. ) The F-15 has twice the mass of the Hawk T1a, but this shows it can in principal be done. I chose the F-15 as the F-14 has high-lift devices and I didn’t want to be accused of “cheating”.
Anyway, this is the Just Flight Hawk thread so I’ll leave this here and move on so that the convo can get back to the Hawk. In return, I challenge you to learn to fly the excellent JF Hawk properly in MSFS with those 2K hours of yours, not as though you’re using Ace Combat 7 ![]()
Amazing job man. I would love to have seen you go even further. Now, how do you feel about the same requirements(under 3700), but it’s a race? ![]()
And keep in mind I have only had this Hawk for 3 days so I am getting used to it.
LMAO @ myself…I just now realized I challenged the freaking developer! Ha ha
I have the F15. I’m going to attempt this with the eagle. If you like silly but fun challenges, I have some I can recommend that you might get a kick out of trying to one up me.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about(maybe the flaps) but I’d love to see you do the same challenge with the F14.
Does the engine shut off for anyone else if you go in and out of the main menu?
Yes but only if I’ve got my mixture knob dialled down to zero.
I’m not seeing the engine turn off but I am seeing the Airbrakes extending and Flaps set to middle postion when I exit the menu - which is fun in cruise
