MilViz PC-6 Pilatus Porter Released

How can being concerned about privacy and the conduct of companies not be ok? Because it is way over the top? If you’d have to call the publisher every time you want to read a book, you’d also be ok with that?

Geez, I am losing hope in humanity.

Decided I would give it a shot and bought it, now I’m stuck on this with the installer.

I think you have hit the Win10 “path too long” issue .

Are you seriously, unironically, telling me that someone who worked a year on a product doing the very minimum they can to protect said product from being stolen and available for free on some website in a matter of hours is “way over the top?”

I’m not sure of a way round it, this happens on both their automatic and manual install options.

Do you get a choice of custom install locations ?

The one plus of the sim’s eternal cratering of mods is that your pirated product will probably only have a shelf life of 4-8 weeks.

If you like it you’ll have to buy it to make sure it continues working.

I am not against protecting their work. Please stop trying to twist my argument. I am just against the way it is implemented here. A central service by a reputable source. Okay. A per plane (or “small” dev) drm, that is bought god knows where or hacked together in the basement by someone who is actually supposed to make planes is not. You see the difference? I think we are on the same side of the fence here. I want them to profit from their work. Just not by introducing that software onto my system. We need a better way than that.

What “central service from a reputable source” do you suggest?

Because you do understand that there is none, right?

two-stage release? the new word for half-finished rushes?

Please note that at this time 3rd-party avionics such as the Working Title Garmin G1000 NXi are not supported nor recommended. This extends to any avionics mods or community fixes.

You can’t be serious.

Throwing the default G1000 in just to get it out before the other Porter releases is.. well… I’d say it’s “so MSFS”. I thought Milviz had reached a certain level of quality but it seems I was fast with that evaluation.

If you’re not ready don’t release! And if you make your life as easy as possible at least properly support the mod.

The P3D version is absolutely great but that “stage two” totally lost its appeal, I’ll wait for a developer who puts some passion into their product.

And on top of that 30 Dollars for an unfinished product with the promise to add stage two later is worth nothing anymore these days. Whatever will be released we’ll have to accept it, in whatever state it is, if the dev says “that’s your stage two” there is no choice anymore.. Everyone should be aware of that.

No Milviz, you have been known for great addons for the last years but this practice must not be supported, right from the beginning.

Exactly what I (and for the matter you) were saying. MS/Asobo needs to provide a solution. And in the meantime it cannot be loaded unto us. So it is a bad move.
Have 10 airports by 10 companies? Have 10 DRM launchers running, also the one for the plane, and here, one for the weather as well…

If you disagree, your prerogative, but saying this is beyond criticising is not in my eyes. But since stuff like this gets boring for others to read, I leave you the last word on this and will not reply any further to you  Thanks for the discussion.

Actually yes. In the meantime it can definitely can be loaded onto us. Developers have the right to protect their work from theft before MS/Asobo do something.

The right to protect oneself from theft should absolutely be beyond criticizing and I’m amazed to see people who think it’s shouldn’t.

Folks - we’re only going to say this ONCE - and anyone who’s spent time here in the Third Party forums already knows this: DO NOT raise Customer Complaints or Feedback here that should go directly to the vendor. User to user feedback is allowed.

Use Milviz’s contact information to raise your concerns - such as copy protection, features, etc.

The Third Party Forums are provided as a courtesy area for General Conversations about outside products. The MSFS Board is NOT a substitute for a vendor’s support forum or channel. We will shut down any threads that continue to go this way.

All of our P3D/XP products in the past 4 years have had DRM.

The service we use is for all company products. So it gets installed once and all further products use the same service. It checks for validation and then does nothing else. We looked at alternatives but, given MS’ refusal to open network access… this was the only way to implement “strong” drm. Give us a choice, and we’d use the other way.

Beta was as in beta prop state not beta product level. In order to avoid further confusion, we have removed it.

We’re getting slagged by those who haven’t even purchased the product all whilst using many other products that have DRM and don’t even tell you. Windows OS, MSFS, P3D, and XP being prime examples. I start to wonder if it’s because you can’t pirate it hat you’re so angry.

The Corsair has been stolen so much… well over 200,000 times, that we felt we had to do this.

The spoiler axis usage is to prevent overspending whilst in a beta descent.

That’s a real pity. I do not have any problems with your DRM, I make my buying decision solely based on product features.

Is there a way to contact support? the support page on the website says ‘MSFS2020… pages are currently under construction’, so is there even any support?

Considering I can’t even use the installer I am very eagerly wanting to talk to whatever support staff there is.

Info at milviz dot com will get you support.

This thread isn’t what I expected.

The H145 is being released in stages, and you received a lower price for jumping in of the first one. You also have to launch the authenticator every 2 hours. (They’re working to come up with something better)

DC Designs is releasing all future products on the marketplace only. They’re no longer using 3rd party distributors due to massive problems with piracy.

The DRM is the least of my concern with this aircraft.

Piracy has been a major issue for 3rd party devs with MSFS.

FYI: you can use the NXI. We’re not saying you can’t. We are, however, saying that it’s not going to be fully compatible. Engine pages are missing and the AP shows some weirdness though not in how it operates…

I work for a medium-sized IT company and we develop our own database software which we of course also sell.
We are also struggling with piracy, but even we understand that not every illegally downloaded copy is a lost sale.

So you’re throwing 200k “lost potential buyers” into the room that would never have existed. it doesn’t work that way.

How many of the 200k people would have bought the software at all if they couldn’t just download it for free?

Sure, even if we only say 10% of them would have been buyers willing to pay, does that hurt but because of that to scare off existing customers willing to pay with some drm?

I don’t know if it’s worth it.

At that time we as a company decided against DRM simply because we didn’t want to overload the support with the problems that arose with such a system.

If you want to do that and your DRM doesn’t cause so many problems, that’s of course your right and I’m the last one to say you shouldn’t protect your property.

As you can see here, unsettling customers willing to pay just because a few people could possibly get the version for free from somewhere … I don’t know.

Sry back to topic

Personally, I don’t find the stages so bad either, if the promises are actually kept, time will tell.

That with the non-existent NXI support is of course a little counterproductive, but even I can understand that, if it is not so easy to simply integrate it into an aircraft because it does not use the standard MSFS components but is a self-contained system, It will of course be difficult for 3rd party developers.
So ihave mixed feelings from that
