All very nice…except that the AI traffic is either crazy or non-existent, no GA traffic, the default aircraft are full of non-operational control buttons and switches and actually, the flight physics are marginally worse than 2020,as you would know if you were a real-world pilot.
I am sure that in another 4 years, this sim/gme will be better but honestly, right now, if you are in it for the flying as opposed to the scenery, you are better off with 2020. Your opinions may vary…but real-world physics do not.
I’m still pretty pleased with the more consistent performance I’m getting in busy photogrammetry areas (Los Angeles is my main testbed). I’m lucky enough not to have major network or VRAM problems, so I’m able to enjoy the smooth, nearly stutter-free experience of better thread scaling and scenery loading vs the constant hitches and drops in the same area in 2020.
The “dynamic settings” also gets a big thumbs-up from me; I bump it up from 30 to 45 fps, along with a TLOD bump to max of 400, and it’s pretty happy to maintain a comfortable frame rate for head tracking panning at low altitudes in the city while maxxing out the detail at higher altitues where it can maintain the frame rate without detail adaptation.
My 2024 method is like fishing. I just sit, wait, read here, and shutdown if things go crazy. Same with 2020. The next day or startup, it just magically fixes some things and blows some things. I’m used to it now and expect it kinda. Recently both versions have been great minus a couple stumbles. I stay away from most work around’s for that reason, and my PC skills keep me limited on changes for sure. I see that as a good thing for me maybe. It would be almost impossible for me to remember every change that’s recommended when problems arrive. Default has played well for me on most things related to the sims, and I’ve tried some of the simple changes recommended when problems arrive, but found them to cause more problems elsewhere when updates arrive. Today 2024 is running well here on my PC considering all the hoops reported, but nothing that keeps me from getting a couple free flights in. I think patience is a virtue that is getting lost in our needs. I have faith they will sort it out. I’m only in for 70us atm for the sim. I lose that much in fishing tackle and bad breakfast in a week, but still go every chance I get. I’m not giving up just yet on 2024. I see improvements in 2024 on my PC since release, even though I don’t know why or understand the logic. Disappointments,Yes, Positive outlook,Yes, but that’s how you land the big ones. I think 2024 will blossom soon enough. I’m willing to wait a few more
I still really enjoy the new 3d rocks and trees are cool. *when they fully render. The detail is amazing. Also the new water effects, like landing on water or hovering over it, is cool.
Ice and snow detail look amazing! Was quite impressed with that.
Also rocks & low altitude detail look good.
3D trees thumbs up too!
Not sure about this, but in case there are people that experience too high FPS cause headache or unpleasant flicker for them or possibly unwanted exagerated release of endorphines or adrenaline too, then FS2024 would be the better choice for them when compared to FS2020.
Happy with the last patch, a couple of flights without crashing has made me happy. Still those annoying bugs but this is a step in the right direction.
Performance is good and at night it does look stunning..
Build v1.2.7.0 downloaded super fast & has fixed the bug that prevented me from enabling HDR on my 55" TV!
Sometimes the level of detail is astonishing. This is the edge of the runway at Savusavu (NFNS) on Vanua Levu. Notice how the tarmac (asphalt) actually has depth, and your aircraft wheel will indeed drop down and sink into the soft tropical soil on the other side…
I like to have a character to walk around, I like the animals and I did not have many CTDs - maybe two or three in total. Also my impression on 2020 was they really fixed a lot of stuff over time - is why Im trying (hard) to stay positive.
Actually MSFS 2024 runs really well for me. Occasionally I see minor bugs like the one shown here. No big deal as I see it. MSFS 2024 improves on 2020 in so many ways! I never tire of the photorealistic scenery as I cruise on my flights.

All in all, the new 2024 is a big step towards the future and I am sure that the guys from Asobo will still deliver a lot of surprises here… Let’s just treat the team to their Christmas holiday and smile about the many small shortcomings that are somehow quite funny…
