Leave it to Microsoft to lock you out of a folder on a storage device that you paid for.
Followed instructions on this link and was able to take ownership
were you able to rename/edit the files in the packages folder?
Having ownership on the folder itself still prevents you from opening/ modifying/ removing/ replacing/ remaning/ moving a file from the folder⊠Stated before
Not even close really.
Sorry, not at this time.
It looks like booting into Linux and modifying files from there should work.
Another option is to try booting into Safe Mode.
If they update SimConnect to support weather, then things are going to be a lot easier for all of us.
So, did this suggestion work for anyone? Considering that the famous JS cockpit FPS fix involves modifying a JS file in the same general location, then maybe this is what youâre guys looking for in order to install Unreal Weather - Live METAR on an MS Store version?
Hey, i just summed up the folders. As far as i know the cockpit fix was for only community folder, so no real changes in that WindowsApps :-/
The cockpit fix also involved the following folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\
so, maybe the the needed folder is located here:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\fs-base-ui\html_ui\Templates\WeatherEditionMenu\
(I am not sure about the middle portion, as it may also have the MSFS build number in the path.)
booting to linux doesnât work, the windowsapps folder shows up as an unreadable symbolic link. I tried in WinPE too and it refused to open the folder at all.
Do you have this folder?
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\fs-base-ui\html_ui\Templates\WeatherEditionMenu\
I think that what is under WindowsApps
is the reserve copy, so there is no need to touch those files.
I donât. All thatâs in packages is community and official, and there is no fs-base-ui folder in packages/official/OneStore
Try to do a global search for WeatherEditionMenu.js
in Windows Explorer. You may find another location where those files reside.
Iâve also just published a critical update to the mod. Please download the new version 1.1.
I just ran a global search and the only place this file exists is in WindowsApps⊠so we are stuck there for now, until somebody comes up with a solution. I am sure somebody willâŠ
@duesen After some research I have found there is no way to even get ownership of the files needed to change for MS Store users. It seems Microsoft intended for all add ons etc to be installed via the Community folder and OneStore folder. Steam works a little differently.
On a side note I think Rex Weatherforce is using Simconnect for weather.
Thatâs very good to know, thank you! I am going to look into this in more detail.
By the way, is REX running as an external program alongside with MSFS, or is it a mod, too?
is a external program, you need to keep it open in the background while using itâŠ
To the author of the program : Your Blogpost is WRONG as we spoke yesterday and i suggested you put an honest warning on the Ms Store version being impossible to install right now⊠You changed a lot on the page but you missed the upmost important thingâŠ
You need to tell people 2 things :
- you are gonna mess with your files and MSFS is touchy about the subject (I saw part of that one today)
- the Ms Store version you cannot modify, therefore you cannot use your soft on those versions.
What you are telling on your page is âget admin rightsâ which will NOT restore access to the needed files.
Just to stauy positive : I love that you are proposing freely what REX is releasing for $$, and it is as I presume certainly a huge time load etc.
Still, you have to get the packaging right, look at what Ms did with their perfect trailers (and a n unfinished product sold as a finished one)
Oh another detail extracted from your blogpost :
UPDATE: However, the actual files that are being used by the game at runtime (MS Store version only) could be located in this folder instead. (This is not yet confirmed!):
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\fs-base-ui\html_ui\Templates\WeatherEditionMenu\
What it will refer to are simlinks (to the installation path)
As told again yesterday, that is just the default path when you do not choose any specific installation location. Not what I, or the open poster hadâŠ
Thanks!
I am preparing the next update of the mod, and will sort that out at that time.
I did not have the folder fs-base-ui\html_ui\Templates\WeatherEditionMenu\ within %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\ for my Microsoft Store version of the game. I created one and put the two files there to try this, but the preset did not pull live weather, and I got clear skies. This mod is a great idea, and if a way can be made to make this work with this version, I would like that very much.
