Confessions of a dabbler. Yup, been dabbling for years but have never seriously sat down to try and really learn this sim. I play DCS, also complex and demanding to run plus IL2. The latter is my go to flying sim fix.
Anyway, long story short. I love VR flying but my 3080 was toiling a bit. Flying was good, especially in IL2 where I’d tuned the sim to perfection for my set up. MSFS was always the laggard, a 3080 was really struggling in VR and to a lesser extent in 2D flight. As with all VR flying the continual tweaking to get those couple of extra frames or that bit more detail can quickly evolve into a full time pastime, or even a career choice.
I bit the bullet and bought an RTX 4090. I have an i7 10700k processor.
fired up MSFS without adjusting any settings from my previous card. ok, frames were up to 70FPS, well beyond my old card, but the fans on the card were creating a hurricane. tweaked a bit more, back mon the tweaking treadmill.
then the magic happened. I went into GeForce experience and clicked on the optimal settings for MSFS. Nothing to lose, so why not?
went back into the sim and could hardly believe it. Pin sharp graphics and frame rate that doesn’t drop below 90FPS, all settings on high. DLSS 3 working the magic.
In VR I was getting 45 FPS with DLSS on MR off, but the in cockpit text was a blurry so I switched back to TAA and MR fixed at 30 FPS. I think I can go back to DLSS in VR but will experiment with the render to bring the sharpness back.
This is how I imagined MSFS would be like. Graphics are easily the best I’ve ever seen in any flight sim.
The journey now begins in earnest.
Hi,
I’m new to this forum. I’ve done Siming for a long time but I had a long break since recently.
I actually noticed that I cannot create a new post anywhere, only respond to other people’s posts. Is there a reason for that?
So, since I cannot carry a new post, I’ll just add it to this response:
I’m trying to figure out the most reliable way to get an English copy of MSFS in Germany. So far I read disaster stories about the dvd version, not to mention that dvd versions are language locked. I also read disaster stories about the downloads, which seem to require multiple accounts on multiple platforms (Microsoft, Microsoft store, xbox, and who knows what other platforms need an account), and no clear way to download MSFS after payment has been made.
So I was hoping if there was a five year old guide to buying and installing MSFS?
Hello Endeavor. Welcome to MSFS. On XBox s. Retired, so on most days. A Co-Pilot in the Flight Forum.
Can assist you with the Sim. I’m in Alaska.
Add me if you like.
Literally just downloading MSFS, complete newbie although did try it out 3 years ago but pc couldn’t cope. So new pc means can give it a proper go now.
From UK and work full time as coach driver, so game time will be limited but ready to buckle up and take to the skies at last!!!
Hello All!
My name is Tim and I’m playing MSFS20 on Series X. I was really into FS2000 until 9/11 and took a 23year break. I decided to try again last month and my mind is blown. The nearest airport to me is KFLX and just up the street from the real TOPGUN. I work nights and have a 3 year old so real travel is tough. It is amazing to me to make flight plans and go wherever I want ; if only virtually. I look forward to group events and hope beyond hope that some kind soul will make a live ATC thing that I can use on Xbox! Anyway, thanks for having me and I look forward to meeting you all!
