Next world update confirmed - CANADA!

The photogrammetry for metro Vancouver is very poor. Just photogrammetry for downtown Vancouver and a little outside downtown, but that’s it. When I fly around Seattle though, metro Seattle in MSFS has photogrammetry covering way more parts of metro Seattle.

Same with Edmonton and Calgary. Just some photogrammetry for downtown Edmonton and downtown Calgary, but once you leave downtown, the photogrammetry is very sparse.

I hope this is fixed in World Update Canada.

Anyone know if Toronto is currently Photogrammetry or not? If it’s not, I hope it will be after the world update.

It just doesn’t look like it is photogrammetry to me as everything appears very sparse to me. I was brought up in Toronto, and it always seemed more busy with buildings, houses, shops etc, but from the air in MSFS2020 it just doesn’t look to busy to me. Maybe it’s just me though.

Can anyone confirm?

Toronto is PG already. It’s easy to test out. Just fly around with and without PG enabled and the difference is pretty obvious.

As of right now, I’d strongly recommend Roman Design’s Toronto freeware packs available on flightsim.to to fill those gaps. It adds a lot to Toronto and surrounding areas’ PG buildings. Not sure how improved the PG data will be after the Canada Update and whether the RD add-ons will be necessary or updated to work with the new data.

This is a great link to see which cities have PG, regularly updated. It already contains WU11.

Yes, we have confirmed that the DC-3 is coming as a free update to all players when the 40th Anniversary Edition releases in November.

I dream of a DLC with all Buffalo AIRWAYS aircraft hahahahah

It’s unfortunate how few Canadian cities will be getting PG though. Sure, we don’t have as many large urban centres in Canada compared to the US. But it would be nice to see mid-size cities getting the treatment as well, When you see the number of PG cities on Google Maps and then compare to Bing Maps, it’s quite a differential. Bing are significantly behind.

But the main thing I’m hoping for is better DEM and refreshed ground textures to replace the already ancient and outdated data from Bing. And hopefully they can fix the terrain spikes and holes that have been there since launch, reported, but never fixed.

Dear Asobo,
Any hope of seeing the CF-105 Avro Arrow?

No no, this is not tradition, not tradition at all

I was very happy downtown Vancouver at least got photogrammetry from the first release of the sim. But yes, there’s a ton of room for improvement. The seawalls, the port, the bridges are all really bad. The Coal Harbour Seaplane Base should get extra special attention!

They say 12 cities are getting PG, but that sounded like it includes the cities who’ve already had it. So I really hope that doesn’t mean the existing PG cities are not getting improved and extended PG!

I am SO excited about this! Really frustrated after waiting a very, very long time since the first teaser posts about the DHC-2 Beaver that we won’t be getting the Beaver with this WU, but at least it’ll be free, so there’s that. But new DEM and terrain imagery is SO welcome! I really hope it’s much much higher res across the whole nation. The Canadian government has very good DEM data available and I’ve even considered trying to find a way to take that and put it into MSFS. I’d love to explore the far North and the Hudson Bay areas, but the terrain far from urban areas often as looked pretty terrible by MSFS standards.

I was a little surprised they didn’t offer a single major airport in the new bespoke airport list. At least the list of major Canadian airports with high quality paid add ons is getting nicely filled out. I haven’t even had time to explore all the Canadian airports I’ve spent money on! But for those who don’t want to spend hundreds on add ons, not seeing improved major airports might seem a bad oversight. I do love bush flying and exploring the back woods and mountains, so I do look forwards to the airports they will be improving. Granted I already own ORBX Bella Coola, so I have to wonder how they compare or if the one in WU Canada IS the Orbx Bella Coola? And wonder if Orbx will be improving and adjusting their Bella Coola paid add on given the built in improvements?

All the POI will be a lot of fun to explore!

Now, let’s see if I can avoid bursting a blood vessel waiting impatiently for the Beaver!! I tell ya, flying a Beaver over an updated and bespoke Canada is going to be SO SWEET!

I don’t have the talent to do scenery mods myself, but I’d like to see someone do Hunlen Falls in advance of the beaver. That part of the Chilcotin is prime float flying territory, and Hunlen falls are a spectacular aerial sight-seeing trip.

Edit: I should add that Hunlen Falls is just up the valley about 20 minutes flying time from Bella Coola, which I understand is going to be one of the bespoke airports, so it’d be a nice little flight from there.

I’ll be happy if they just fix glaring scenery errors, especially shorelines and rivers. This is Toronto:

on top of that I hope they fix the god awful bridges in all the cities with photogrametry. gotta love trying to buzz the DVP only for the Danforth bridge to put a quick end to that with a wall.

I’ve found you can fly under most bridges even if they are drawn like a wall, but I haven’t tried the bloor viaduct yet

Hope they add some Polar Bears into the sim. Flying over Churchill would be fun

Yea i know most you can, but it definitely looks awful seeing the ground skyrocket 90 degrees to the bridge instead of feeling like I’m flying under it. seems to have fixed it in other WU areas so I’m remaining hopeful. specially for the issues you mentioned.

And Tundra Buggy’s! Churchill is flat but interesting - it was the 2nd largest concrete runway in north america when built. And it was built for the Americans as a base during WWII and later from which to install the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line, to watch for missles from Russia! And there is a “spaceport” because at the time they used the stars for navigation (so far north where magnetic deviation is huge), and because the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) would interfere with navigation, they literally launched rockets up to try different chemicals in the upper atmosphere to ‘turn off’ the northern lights. When the decommissioned the base, they left everything behind - so almost every house, and every hotel room in town has a full size 1950s Frigidaire.

There’s a 3rd party Churchill add-on on flightsim.to that includes polar bears (among other things).

Great news about the next world update. I know that this update was planed a long time back but would still like to remind Microsoft of the history of aviation that we have down east in Canada. The Silver Dart, the many things that have happened in Gander though the years including 911 and that St. John’s is the oldest city in North America. Not to mention that a lot of the crossings of the Atlantic started in St. John’s and area or was used as a way point on their way across. CYYT was used by Boeing to test their planes because of the natural windshear off all runways. Just saying, a lot of firsts out here.
