Next world update confirmed - CANADA!

I think they just use whatever photogrammetry is in Bing Maps, and if there isn’t already they have to license it from a vendor for Bing Maps, and that vendor may or may not have cleaned up the models. At least the bridges in Portland, Oregon have the same solid vertical sides on Bing as they do in the sim (unless you replace them with a third-party mod’s versions).

I just want the trees removed from the bridges in Edmonton. Especially high level and walterdale bridge

It’s sad because I think there are now more than a handful of private satellite imaging companies who each have dozens of satellites and very good imagery. I read somewhere MSFS is using a static capture of Bing maps from over 10 years ago (no idea if that’s true). Even if Bing maps uses newer imagery, it looks like this over Toronto. Hard to ignore the hasty photoshop eraser work

Surely the Centre of the Universe deserves better!

The whole sim deserves a Bing maps update - that was just an example, but it’s the same everywere.

Agreed, but the Centre of the Universe is in Saanich (just north of Victoria, BC)

Oh, I agree. I was just poking a bit of fun at Toronto by drawing in the rest of the country’s refrain about it seeing itself as the centre of the universe.

Yep I got the reference. It’s funny how in the intros to MSFS, they assumed everyone would fly first to somewhere exotic, but in fact everyone flys to their home.

I still want to try and land the Twin Otter in the sim’s representation of my kids’ schoolyard… I’ll do it after the world update.

oh it’s entirely true. fly over Younge and Bloor and you’ll see a big red carpet and a bunch of cars parked along Bloor. That’s the Yorkville Exotic Car Show. Takes place every fathers day weekend annually. Younge and Dundas Square has a poster for 21 Jump street on the building northeast of the Eatons Centre dating it to 2012. hopefully we’ll at least get updated to a poster from Free Guy?

You know what would look really cool for this Canada World Update? If somebody made the Ice Blue livery from Air Canada on the PMDG 737-800. I would love to fly the PMDG 737-800 around Canada after the Canada World Update, using the old Ice Blue livery. The old Air Canada Ice Blue livery been requested at fightsim.to here: Air Canada ice blue | Requested by ODEEZ1 | Flightsim.to.

Nothing would be as cool as flying around the PMDG 737-800 using that Air Canada Ice Blue livery in the upcoming Canada World Update!

I would prefer the classic Canadian Pacific Airlines orange Pac-Man theme in the 737-800 to explore Canada with.

Better yet, a 737-200 in that livery.

You can see that one’s got the gravel kit on it for landing on gravel runways. B737-200… the ultimate bush plane.

Pretty much all canadians 200 have gravel kit

Even our challengers

Canadian Airlines (what became of CP Air) only had three with the gravel kit, out of their fleet of dozens of B737-200s. IIRC, the ones with the gravel kits were all combis, too. Those aircraft were spun off to Air Norterra when Canadian’s arctic air services subsidiary was sold. I don’t know where those aircraft ended up or if they’re still flying with Canadian North now. Those old 737s are expensive to maintain. The nightmarish lap joint AD and other mandatory structural inspection programs basically give the airframe a hard life limit. They’re not going to last like the old Douglas aircraft do.

Somebody agreed to work on the Air Canda Ice Blue livery for the PMDG 737-800! Looking forward to using this livery in the PMDG 737-800, in conjunction with the Canada World Update!

Also waiting for CYEG from FSimStudios to appear in the MSFS marketplace. That will be awesome when CYEG releases in the MSFS marketplace. Better photogrammetry for Edmonton from the Canada World Update, plus CYEG from FSimStudios, will make flights from Edmonton much more fun to fly!

Around my area (CYGK), the satellite imagery used in MSFS is about 8 years old. I can tell by the state of long-completed construction projects including a bridge. At launch, that data was already obsolete as Bing had newer imagery. Now Bing has some really high res imagery of this area that’s less than 2 years old. But still the same old low res junky imagery in the sim.
