Whatever is behind the issue, it IS A SIGNIFICANT ISSUE and the silence and inaction is absolutely infuriating.
Are they still there! I have not looked into 24 in months, but noticed the same and figured it would be fixed by now.
My thought here is that this is being overlooked / missed by devs because the title of the post is phrased as a wish list item. I guess they scan read titles of these posts but understandably can’t dig into the details on everything. It’s up to the OP but maybe it would be worth renaming the title with the help of a community moderator, to focus on the problem itself - Incorrect reflections of scenery in canopy / windshield glass (regression from MSFS 2020)
I don’t understand why this discussion even exists. Don’t any of the devs ever LOOK at the thing they’re making and say “Oh, the windshield is reflecting the ground under the aircraft, gee, THAT’S embarrassing, let’s fix that right away.”
So what this amounts to is that they either don’t understand how reflections work or they think getting it completely wrong is good enough.
You cannot expect AI used in development to understand how the reflection works in complex cockpit environment when it has been trained on simple examples only. That’s something that cannot be repaired by simple correction of existing code, unfortunately.
If one of the forum members can make a start on fixing the problem, I would hope the (professional) coders would be able to follow his lead.
This problem did not exist in FS2020 - if Asobo/MS created this problem by chosing to redo the core engine and/or redo the aircraft, it is up to them to ensure they are actually selling an upgrade rather than a downgrade.
I’ve highlighted this issue as a question for the upcoming developer live stream.
Edit: to be clear, I’m not asking for a new option because I don’t like that solution (and haven’t voted for it), I’m asking them about the issue with the reflections.
If they can’t fix it, they should allow us to turn it off.
The problem is, they don’t think it’s a problem. They do not consider it a bug. It’s confusing though because getting things right and delivering a quality product DOES appear to be the goal for the most part. That this one very basic, very obvious, very distracting issue is considered acceptable simply does not make sense.
Sorry I disagree about an option to turn it off; that’s not the right solution and such requests are sending this all down the wrong path of a wish-list item. My opinion is that this should all be reformulated as a bug report, not focusing on some new option which would be detrimental to all the aircraft with currently correct reflections.
Also, you are making an assumption that the devs don’t think it’s a problem and don’t consider it a bug. We’ve had silence from the dev team on this - that isn’t an answer one way or another. My assumption is that it’s been overlooked because this post is pitched as a request for a new option.
There already is a bug report on this issue: Excessive reflections, glare, tint & opacity - canopy
Not really. That’s for: “Excessive reflections, glare, tint & opacity - canopy” Not “Distracting, incorrect, impossible reflections from below the aircraft that should not exist because the aircraft would block them.” It’s also on the instruments BTW.
Of course it’s a bug not a wish list item, but if they refuse to see it that way, which certainly appears to be the case, they should AT LEAST let us turn off the lame reflections.
I guess it’s not all the developer’s fault though. A big part of the problem has to be that not enough people notice the issue. I guess they just see it and go “oh cool, reflections” and don’t happen to notice that what’s being reflected doesn’t make any sense and could never actually happen.
The devs should care enough about the quality of their work to notice it and fix it on their own though.
FYI, As per the CMs closing comment, ground reflections in the cockpit are covered in the Excessive reflections, glare, tint & opacity - canopy topic.
