EGLC v2 cannot be bought at a discount for v1 owners on MS Marketplace unfortunately. We tried some form of “bundle” (on MS Marketplace) to give current v1 owners a discount, but couldn’t make it work. Some customers reached out directly to “move” their v1 to OrbxCentral, which we can do manually, so they can get v2 with the discount (73% off).
I suggest you come to our Discord server for these questions as that is our preferred channel for product (and account) support, please.
does anyone tested the Upgrade to 2.0 for the London City Airport by OrbX ? The older Version has CTDs and black Screens all the time. I Hope this Version works more perfect for Xbox Users
Works for me, didn’t have any issues, although it was from a clean install so I didn’t have much else installed around London. I was expecting more from it tbh compared to the airports that others have come out with, but much of the updates are there. Just wish it had more detail around it than what it does.
Not sure how it compares overall to the UK2000 one since I haven’t used that, but there’s not as much lighting as I think there should be at night, no interiors, and not a ton of detail around the airport. Not terrible, but not as detailed as we’ve come to expect from some of the new airports that have been released.
I’m surprised you say there not much detail around the airport, it includes modelling of a lot of buildings in the area outside of the airport, makes it look much better.
Maybe I need to take another look, but I wasn’t impressed with the terminal itself. With the larger airports I have that have much more detail, I guess I just expected more. I’m on XBox too where some are dumbed down a bit, but have way more detail still.
I can tell you what I don’t like and what I think ORBX should have fixed immediately after release (but didn’t):
Runway threshold lights are incorrectly placed at the beginning of the runway instead of the displaced threshold. Pretty embarrassing on its own since the short runway is what makes London City special, and with that error they made the runway longer.
Even MORE embarrassing because it used to be correct in V1!
Main terminal interior:
I don’t mind not having interior modelling, just make the windows opaque and put on subtle night lighting textures. HOWEVER:
ORBX used the cheap parallax effect for the rooms at the parking stands, which looks horrible!
The result is that you park your aircraft, and while you do that you see seat rows bending upwards as you move into position. Then at the stop look left and you stare directly at a blurry low-res texture of seat rows that bends upwards on the side walls, and it’s so close to your eye point you can’t not see it. Absolutely horrible and very shoddy quality.
That’s just laziness on the part of ORBX so I do understand any low rating people give. What a shame, the rest would be quite decent in my opinion.
But for today’s ORBX details seem to not matter anymore. And they wonder why people stopped being loyal buyers of their work.
I thought about the upgrade, but given how Orbx have been with this (Discount? What discount?) and other releases (promised upgrades for the Blackwing, P-750, etc that have failed to materialise), I dumped version 1 (memory hog that it was) and went for the UK2000 version instead… Much better in my opinion, and the developer actually sorts it issues that are raised.
I wouldn’t touch Orbx products in future without a very good reason to do so.
Hi. I have the latest UK2000 scenery and no, as far as I see, it doesn’t include much at all beyond the airfield. They have modelled a Travelodge hotel building and short length of animated railway, however this is only alongside the airport perimeter and no further.
Beyond this, there is only the standard Asobo/Microsoft poor photogrammetry of London to the west and default scenery to the east.
I think charging for an update to bring the airport layout to match how it already was in real life when the scenery was first released was a poor marketing move and left many disappointed customers (me included) and would surely affect the rating.
As already noted the modelling of the terminal buildings is mediocre at best and paying for that once let alone twice (even with the discount) makes it seriously underwhelming. I think it would be fair if you bought V2 for the first time in a good sale.
V1 was was guaranteed black screens and regular CTD on xbox X (at least for me with the orbx London pack) so I hope their choice on not modelling an interior at all was for performance reasons and not laziness.
This is exactly it. I didn’t mind paying for the upgrade since it was $11 vs the full price, but I think the disappointment also just comes from when it was released as well.
When I got V1, I was very happy with it (when it did work on XBox). But now that we’re a few years later and seeing what other developers have come out with, it’s just nowhere near as impressive as V1 was due to lack of comparison back then.
Also I could be wrong but doesn’t Orbx also host other addons in the marketplace on behalf of others? The scenery I’ve gotten from them has also been very good, so I assumed that this would’ve mirrored what they’ve done in that area.
In ORBX V1 on xbox , no ground support was available. No ramp, GPU, fuel truck, baggage or catering at sny of the parking spots I ever found myself in.
Can anyone confirm if V2 or the UK2000 has ground support?
Secondly, looking at file sizes, UK2000 is only about 10% of the size of the ORBX, so would I be correct to assume it is more stable for the Xbox?
Purchased my upgrade this week for V2 - already had v1 on Xbox X
although I already had version 1 the package downloads V1 then V2 and then you have to delete V1 !! - each time I try to spawn at V2 I get CTD, I do have their London City Landmarks installed. Would love to fly the ATR out from here but it just CTD at each try…
Imagine how simple it could have been if they had simply updated the V1 package to V2, and there was only ever a single version. Yes, they couldn’t gouge you for the update, it’s true, but then they simply increase their chances of users not buying future OrbX products, and damaging their reputation at the same time.
Thanks for the reports. Going to pass on purchasing the v2 update for all the reasons discussed. Maybe down the line if v2 gets updated and becomes something to repurchase.
