IFR comes with it’s own set of challenges and all the training that goes with it (in real life anyway) but yes, you just have to follow instructions! I’m glad both types of navigation proceedures can be practiced in the sim. [need to insert an as-of-yet not created emoji of person with IFR training hood on]
The particular route I was referring to (Pokhara to Jomsom) is VFR ONLY because navaids don’t work in the mountainous terrain there and I suspect that even if Jomsom had a navaid, the terrain would be too close to the approach path for them to design a legal instrument approach proceedure (IAP).
I understand the reasons, however it sounds really foolish that the RL crew tried to fly it in IMC. Although sadly I do know how companies pressure crew to ignore rules. It’s lucky that in MSFS the worst that can happen is a black screen
Question: What was crossing the mountains like?
Reason I ask - back in the '80s I flew in a maybe 8-10 person puddle jumper from somewhere in southern CA over some mountains and into China Lake. I was not really certain I would survive (but it was not bad enough to make me barf).
Healthy respect for the pilots that fly those flights every day.
Not too bad turbulence since I was at 11,500’. It’s beautiful passing over from the coastal valley deeper into the desert.
The Edgly Optica comes with a choice of “co-pilot” - a dog or a cat.
The cat co-pilot.
The dog co-pilot.
Supposedly you can choose both, but I haven’t gotten that to work yet - those pesky rotary controls with a mouse stink!!
Yes you can have both, but they start randomly fighting and it sends your plane all over the place!
(…not really, they are best of friends and very chilled out — considering my flying )
In my case I started with the cat, but after enduring 30 minutes of my flying, the cat grabbed a 'chute and bailed out, leaving the dog to suffer. . .
I gave up pretty quick, I need more practice with the landings as is is already, don’t need more handicap. But still I’d really like to do it the proper civilian pilot way
Today, as exciting as it isn’t…
I’m waiting next to the facility where…me hopes
The Ol’ girl will finally be rolled out/released and get some air under her flappers.
I see there are a few others waiting with also
Oh, and hoping today is the day for a couple upgrades for another couple of “boids”
Tis all
I can sort of guess flying at night under bridges might cause you to be “relieved” … of your pilot’s license!
wonderful thing about MSFS 2020, it can’t read the lawbooks.

Moved it to its intended place…
What IS that beastie? Is it stock? I don’t remember seeing it.
Does the “Baron” have a red livery?
Very nice photos. I started to wonder what airliner that is, but then I realized there is a bigger question here: how does one tell any airliner fron any other? (Save the 747, that one can be recignised) GA airplanes can be similar, but not to the level airliners do…
Not stock, but free
Yeah? I tried to sleep during your flight and you had to scrape me off the ceiling after a thunderclap.
This was my south Florida flight this morning
Your post prompted me to get over (some of) my hesitancy toward the DA40.
For the last year or so, I have been watching Diamond DA40s being flown by a flight school out of KLNA Lantana Florida. It even prompted buying the Diamond DA20 for x-plane, but when I recently switched to MSFS2020, I found the DV20 requires both throttle and propeller control making flying it more complex, and I (wrongly) presumed the DA40 would also require this added complexity.
Adding to my hesitancy toward the DA40 was a fatal crash at KLNA in March where a pilot and student were bringing a new DA40 from the factory. They executed a go-around and something happened on the right turn at the end of the runway. That crash really shook me for some reason. I learned that the DA40 has a lot of automation which includes a go-around switch on the left side of the stick.
After seeing your post, I watched a very good youtube intro to the MSFS DA40 that said the DA40 automation handles the prop and throttle with a “Power Lever”. This would make flying the DA40 easier than the DV20. (It also mentioned something about the plane handling raising the flaps and gear automatically on takeoff - which is scary, and I’m guessing forgetting to lower the gear on landing is also eliminated in the DA40 - that does sound nice.)
The youtube mentioned that the plane really wants to fly which makes hitting the 72 kt landing speed critical (the pilot was using full flaps to help slow the plane as well). I have the same issue with the MSFS LongEZ where I have to hold 80 kts exactly or have a very long runway.
Would love to join you as a passenger in a DA40 Florida flight via Discord streaming sometime.
Ah, the always refreshing P Gatcomb on YouTube!
I saw the DA40 flown by There Flying Fabio on stream. It has an improvement mod. It’s a G1000, but I can live with that.
Flew it only twice, until now.
Don’t hesitate to deal with a separate propeller lever. It’s actually not that hard.
Hm, streaming… I’ll think about that.
Given some scenery/airport add-ons in my community folder, how can I tell who created them?
