Ooh, Nielsen wrote one hell of a clarinet concerto ![]()
Does this mean it is about to release Chewwy?
I believe PMDG are cautiously targeting Thursday 4th December for release, but that isnât confirmed yet! ![]()
Oh yes, I played it when I was in college!
Have we received any indication as to whether Borisâ soundpack for 2020 will be supported with this new 2024 release?
It comes with an entirely new sound suite as part of the update, however Iâd imagine Boris will update their package to be compatible in the future given how popular both the aircraft and his sounds are!
1 year almost pmdg 2020 aircraft and dc6 too are getting closer for fs2024 ![]()
Laugh all you want. Buy the plane or donât. No skin off my nose.
I bit the bullet and bought the soundpack in Orbx BF sale, presuming one purchase will give access to the both versions like his brilliant PMDG 777 soundpack.
Just made a quick look at the previews and didnât see very big differences vs 2020 version. And it took them 1+ year to bring this to msfs2024
If you want to see all of the new updates for MSFS 2024, then itâs all detailed here: What is new for FS2024? - PMDG 737 Introduction
A visual first look may not give you a complete picture of everything thatâs been added/updated under the hood!
Just like with their 777 updates there are no walkaround elements, no Career compatibility, and no visible passengers (as far as I can tell). I have no doubts that effort went into this and that there are benefits to the end-user âunder the hoodâ, but itâs certainly disappointing that the tangible 2024-exclusive features people have come to expect from other developers are lacking in this one - especially since the upgrade is being served up at a cost to existing owners of the 2020 version and given the length of time this took.
Iâll purchase the upgrade and hope for some or all of these features to come in the future, but Iâm not very optimistic unfortunately.
Phew
Whew, Impressive list of changes and Impressive list of available liveries.
The walk around elements for airliners is kinda moot. Not a common real world activity for an active airliner.
Career mode is something Iâd want but given the current state of career mode having a high fidelity aircraft wouldnât change anything. Still going to get dinged for stuff you wouldnât irl.
Passengers I could only see hurting fps, id assume when most people fly airliners in sim theyâre not too concerned if there are a bunch of pax in the model.
I agree when it comes to items like covers, but just compare this paid upgrade which took a year to Fenixâs free upgrade which took half the time and integrated tons of (obviously subjective, but) fun and interesting walkaround elements to their aircraft - ones that might not regularly be interacted with by the pilots, but certainly cool to interact with in our simming (again, subjective of course).
You may not have interest in walkaround, Career, or passengers, but others do - and this is made evident by the efforts put in by other developers to incorporate these features in their aircraft (again, in some cases, at no cost to the owners). Just disappointing by comparison.
Not everyone who plays this game pretends to be a pilot. I like to be able to do as much as possible on virtual planes: walk around, maintenance, cabin preparation, pushback and what not. Obviously, all these activities should be optional for those who are not interested in anything but a cockpit.
That would most likely be based on how each dev builds their aircraft for the sim. Fenix doesnât sell on marketplace and uses Javascript to run code outside the sim and isnât available on Xbox. My understanding and I could very well be wrong is that Fenix licenses a code base and then merges that with the sim vs PMDG who has built their code to have to work with Microsoft/Asobos SDK where Fenix doesnât need them as much. Making a product that works on PC in the sim is one feat. Making one that works on PC, Xbox and can be sold in the marketplace is a lot more work to do.
I own both Fenix and PMDG products and I love both.
That would be me ![]()
I walk around my airliners as is done in the real world before every flight. I start cold and dark, I load cargo and pax, I push back, I use beyond ATC for instructions. I try to mimic the real thing as much as possible (this goes for pretty much all aircraft I fly) I even get real world flight route and flight numbers from flightaware to mimic airline ops. Iâm all for depth and not just jump in and throttle to TOGA, itâs why I fly Fenix, PMDG and Black square aircraft
I think you may be missing the point - they like to do as much as possible, even when itâs not realistic to the role of pilot. This means that when developers like Fenix introduce unique walkaround functionality that gives you more to do in the sim, even if that means youâre now role playing as ground crew, itâs an added benefit to the product for some of us.
Your point re: the added complexities of developing an aircraft thatâs compatible across multiple platforms/the Marketplace is valid, though Iâm not convinced it fully makes up for both the gap between the two products and the difference in cost of upgrades. That said, PMDG will charge what the market will bear, and as a business with responsibilities to their employees, that is their job.
