Update is downloading now, but I would like to ask why the SU3 release post did not work (for me anyway) as an “announcement” in the forum. If it weren’t for the second announcement about the deployment issue on Xbox and PC-MS Store, I probably wouldn’t have known SU3 was out for a few days more.
These are the latest notifications I have from the forum “news & announcements”. Note the glaring omission…
Having found Jayne’s post with the release notes linked below, I see it’s 5 days old. Makes sense that it took time to prepare and was hidden prior to that. Was that the reason why this post in the “news & announcements” category didn’t actually trigger an announcement notification?
Might be something to look at in future to help on the communication side. I’m not much of a social media user.
I’m really happy with the SU3 release. My flights on the last two beta builds were all smooth with the exception of the A350 and inibuilds Heathrow/Gatwick which all probably need further optimisation as the PMDGs perform flawlessly on 2024.
One of the issues I am having is multiplayer does not seem to be working. In the last two beta builds, my skies were completely empty despite having multiplayer turned on in the settings, all players turned on in the free flight menu and name tags also turned on. I thought the public release might rectify this as I know beta users are not able to see non beta users, but my skies are still completely empty. Not sure if this is a bug or an issue on my end. Is anyone else having the same?
Nice change log with a lot of improvements! Looking forward to the improvements.
One main issue that is still there is for those that like to fly with multiplayer. It is still very difficult to see other multiplayer users. There may be be some few names in the distance (very hard to see; no info on plane). Those who life flying with multiplayer are still not factored in this update. Many times you have to get really close to someone to even see the type of plane they are on.
Option to delete rolling cache is gone now. Cannot delete or set rolling cache to 0 anymore. Setting it to 0 gives error message. I like deleting it for every update as many times there are items in cache that cause issues. Workaround: set it to 0.02 and it will save. Why can’t it be disabled if we need it off?
Still seeing random blurry ground textures issues.
I’ve got an odd reversal of that problem… I listen to ATIS on COM2… now, if I turn COM2 off (audio panel).. the ATIS doesn’t go silent, until it finishes it’s broadcast.. !
The severe LOD issues that make a large number of aircraft unusable in VR (https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/1-5-25-0-vr-lod-curve-issues/733914/37) is still present in the release version. I could maybe understand an argument saying that the base simulator has changed and 3rd party developers need time to update their modules, but the fact that even 1st party planes are incompatible is unacceptable in my opinion.
Best update since release.
This is nearly as the sim had to be released 9 months ago.
And I ask again: Why no Early-Access release with a reduced price in 2024?
Next: Please fix the aircraft in the Aviators edition.
As a paying customer I am not interested if the teams which developed the aircraft initially still exist or if the existing dev-teams want more money.
I want functional content for what I paid for.
I’m not able to replicate this issue personally. I just started a flight at KLAX (an airport I knew would be busy with other players) and immediately saw three other multiplayer aircraft. Both their nameplates (including aircraft type) and the planes themselves were visible.
Running great for me so far, and I’m extremely pleased to see separated options for airport ops vehicles! I think another couple of updates and I’ll be able to convince my wife that I’m flying a real plane.
I did my first flight on SU3 earlier. Hand crafted Madrid to Leipzig. Flying in the A330 freighter. Everything went smoothly apart from a few stutters and frame rate drops at Madrid. Saw an epic thunderstorm enroute, the lightning was great to see. I would like to see some optimisations to the A321 though, as I tried a flight in it earlier and performance still isn’t great. I’m not getting the constant CTDs when loading into a large airport now though which I’m pleased about. Also, I have noticed that I can’t always hear ATC talking, which could be a server issue maybe. ATC is also causing small stutters when ATC is about to say something, and I’m getting longer freezes just before they give descent clearance. I’m hoping that SU3 will improve over the coming days and weeks once server load has calmed down a bit. This happened with SU2, it seemed to improve over time.
This is a consistent thing for me too. For example, i will see the long list of poll/feedback posts for a Beta release show up in my “New” posts section, but the actual release notes post is not there. I always have to go into the forum news and announcements section to find it.
The SU3 release notes post also didn’t show in my New list, nor did I get a forum notification icon on my profile pic.
My guess is the posts are too “old” because they were created many days earlier, and thus they are not displayed when turned active. Just a hypothesis.
Another setting that I think many people don’t adjust is to go into “Flight Conditions” and change Multiplayer from “Live” to “All Players”. If you leave it on “Live” (which I believe is the default), then you will only see other multiplayer aircraft if they are using live time and live weather. If you set it to “All Players”, then you’ll see everyone regardless of what they set for their in-sim time and weather conditions. Note that this setting can only be modified before you start a flight.
The “Live” option is there for players who want maximum realism and only want to fly with other multiplayer pilots who are also using live time/weather, but you’ll definitely see far fewer aircraft in multiplayer mode that way.
