Ah yes, I forgot to change it to 1.0.1 in the content manager. Will put out a small hot fix! For now ensure you have 7 weather presets instead of 6.
I take that to mean I should have the following soaring types
Coastal, Crosscountry, Ridge, Alps winter, Alps summer, Standard No Wind, and Standard???
Further to my last post. It must be the last update installed. Just did a flight with crosscountry weather, went to high under a big black cloud and got quite a hammering, on the way down went on the lee side of a ridge and got hammered again. This is so realistic, how you programmers do it will forever remain a mystery to me!!
Yup those clouds are dangerous .. I found that out before finding the attitude indicator and I had to use the external cam just to see which way up I was ![]()
Work has started on the Discus-2c FES Premium Upgrade. Thank you for downloading the Standard Package. This Standard Package will improve over time and will always be Freeware. The Premium Upgrade will be additional features to add to your experience. It will not be a different glider. This download will be required to use the premium if you choose to upgrade. Thank you all for the tremendous support post-release! I hope everyone who enjoys this add-on considers upgrading to the premium once itās released!
Thank you and follow for more details!
Whether I need the added features or not I will be buying the full version purely to reward the efforts of you and your collegues. I havenāt had so much fun flying since MSFS was released.
For the last 10 years I have been travelling our pretty planet and flying with a paraglider. Got 1000+ hours hunting the thermals, getting sucked in to the clouds, scratching low, taking pictures and trying to navigate. Doing now the same - on the sites I know very well - with the Discus in VR is beyond words fantastic. Thank you. Will most definitely get the premium.
The updated manual is great! I think I may have figured out the netto variometer, tooā¦
A couple of false starts tonight, but wound up doing an hourlong flight in the greater Innsbruck area. I think thatās a new record for me.
This sound so great. Your glider really has pushed MSFS to the next level for me. As I have some experience in real gliders I really enjoy flying your Discus as it brings back so many great memories.
Is there a chance you will develop the Duo version of the Discus so that we can fly together with friends using yourcontrols? This would also be a great way to teach other people who might be interested in gliders how to fly them.
The Stemme S12-G we announced will be duel cockpit controls. After that⦠who knows!
Seems like a lot of people are enjoying the Discus-2c and if everyone enjoys our gliders the most, we may be able to tailor our development towards such.
Right now our portfolio is very diverse:
- Edgley Optica (Jonx)
- Savage Grravel (Got Gravel)
- Fokker DR.1 (Mykrode)
- Amphibious Sport (Mykrode)
- Sport Plane (Mykrode)
- Gee Bee R3 (Got Friends)
- F4F-4 Wildcat (Got Friends)
- Discus-2c (Got Friends)
- Stemme S12-G (Got Friends)
- Draco (Got Friends)
As you can see, we are all over the place with development. We havenāt settled on a particular type of aircraft. We focus on flight models, quality and fun factor.
If we get enough community support and people start looking up to āGot Friendsā as their premier choice in gliding, we will probably tailor all future products towards those markets.
However, there are other gliders out there MadoloSimulations gliders are fantastic and with Flightsim AG Studios (MSFSā Choice of Glider Partner) coming out, who knows what will be available for the future.
It really depends on the community feedback and download/purchase numbers. I love being transparent with the community, I always have been. If there is a glider the mass wants, we know it will be worth our effort. However, if the mass ultimately doesnāt get āHypedā over a project⦠well, I donāt think I want to put much effort into developing it.
I donāt think you guys should just limit yourself to gliders or to just one specific type of aircraft at all really, variety is the spice of life! I like your glider and am interested in the payware upgrade but Iām also really looking forward to the Got Friends F4F as well and I also quite enjoy the Gee Bee.
At some point it would be great to see competition gliding added to the sim. Some of the most challenging and rewarding sim flying I have done was with Condor 2 flying in multi-player cross country races. I love the fact that you have to plan ahead and read the terrain and conditions to make it around the course, let alone come in first.
Iāll definitely pick up the upgrade when it is released, and any other gliders. Iām much more interested in pure gliders than self-launchers though. I guess I like the winch launch and then the immediate need to find lift..itās all part of the challenge.
Check out Albatross by Touching Cloud.
Also, Discus-2c FES will not provide self launch haha it just āsustainsā flight.
Very cool, I will definitely check that out! Thanks!
I have installed the update. Great work on the new winch launch and the sound of open windows. But did the flightmodel change also? I was able to do ridge soaring in the previous version. Enjoying updrafts and trying to avoid downdrafts. But now it is pure suicide. When encountering a downdraft the plane goes nose down and canāt be recovered? Happens with al the weather presets.
The flight model was adjusted for more realism. There is consequences to flying into strong downdrafts. Are you flying with All Assists on or True to Life on? Also, make sure if your wing dips, you apply full opposite Rudder and ease your stick forward.
I have all my settings on hard, but there has been a sim update so maybe it has been reset? Will check. I do like realism, but maybe this is too much?
I also would prefer the previous flight model. On a sim this seems to be too much to handle.
Sacrifice on realism.. Why?
I havenāt flown a Discus, though, all my hours IRL are in gliders.
The latest update is great. The original release was brilliant and had spent just shy of 20hrs in it (across 8 flights). Have only had the time to put in a futher ~3.5 hours (across 3 flights) since the update.
Not only the great new winch system, it feels even better in the sky compared to the original release, in my humble opinion. It doesnāt at all seem hard to handle to me and, have enjoyed ridge soaring and riding thermals (with use of Kinetic Assistant) alike. Also, putting it intentionally into stalls and spins feels a lot better (more natural) now too. It flies how I would expect it to. Itās a real joy to fly this bird in the sim! The hours just disapear when Iām flying this. As I find the time does when Iām flying IRL.
Even with MSFS weather limitations flown carefully thereās no reason for the discus to stall, just react better when you get hit by a bomb. My only gripe is the weather itself, no brown field thermals and wind not following contours as you would expect.
