Released: MD-80

I believe it will go back to normal next month. January is a free month for existing members and then it goes back to normal tomorrow.

Thanks for this information!

Used to be able to save and restore a flight .been flying the 737 for a few months came back and had to reinstall first flight out climbed to cruise .saved the flight as always do .loaded flight next day and dead cockpit with s gpu hanging on to my plane .any idea what I have done wrong

Question. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Situation. On arrival into EHAM for a R27 approach, and I’m using ILS 27 via ARTIP transition. This involves passing SPL at 7000ft and going into a hold pattern.
If I left the aircraft as it without intervention the hold will continue and I’ll loop around the hold pattern.
So I go into HOLD in FMC, and arm EXIT HOLD, and it should say exit hold armed or something like that, and it will indeed exit the hold.

BUT

Sometimes when I do this, the rest of the approach waypoints in the FMC including the destination runway get wiped completely and the FMC then requires me to go add destination runway and approach back in manually. Meanwhile the aircraft is suddenly not following any flight plan until you do this so I quickly have to jump to HDG mode to make sure I know where it is headed.
It seems like a bug, and it doesn’t happen every time, but it does happen a lot.
Anyone else see this type of behaviour? and am I doing anything wrong/missing something here?

Waited until February and purchased the sound pack using Patreon.
Very inexpensive. Cost me about three ever depreciating Canadian dollars a month. Keeping subscription is optional after you download the file.

I didn’t install properly. Accidentally deleted the other files in one of the directories. Had to completly reinstall Maddog. Sounds are definately a lot better. DockedLotus4062 says quite accurate too.
Recommend if you want different sounds. Just be careful with installation.

Glad it worked and you liked it.

I love how the packs sound, how the engine spool and start to buzz like crazy when you reach high thrusts.
And cockpit sounds also are custom.

Here is a video showcasing the FTSIM+ sound pack by A330 Driver:

They do sound good. Having sat as a passenger in them 30 odd years ago that is the sound I remember for the engines while sitting right next to them in the rear.
I do note that a real MD80 pilot in the video (linked below) says-

ā€œProbably one of the nicest features about the airplane is that it’s very quiet. We’re up here so far away from the engines at the back that it’s almost like flying a glider when you are flying about 210kts in the pattern, it’s great.ā€

I’d definitely recommend a 10 minute watch of this video posted much earlier on this thread. Some brilliant insights from a pilot. The ā€œcompass added as an after thoughtā€ description cracks me up.

As a former MD83 cabin crew, i can tell you the cockpit is noisier than the sweet spot that is between row 5 till 16 haha.

Because in front, you have the aerodynamic sounds of the air hitting the fuselage, but it gets very very quiet almost until the overwing exits, where the engine vibrations start, until the worse place : door 14. Where you’re seated with the engines in THX, have the smell of the toilets and not even a view because the first windows are 3 to 4 rows ahead, and get deaf when you need to board from the rear stairs because of the APU, are in charge of the toilets, but also the rear galley and have to do the onboard announcements, also, i suspect those MD80 thin doors to not be so airproof with ageing as you could hear very high pitch noise near them.
The Ftsim soundpack even have the engines dephasing which IRL is deafening while taxiing or on final when the ATHR is disconnected or the engine sync is turned off.

That rear seat, is the seat of all the senses, a full MD80 experience.

I always seemed to end up in those window seats at the back right next to the engines/rear lavatory. Probably because I didn’t know any better at check in, lol.
Interesting info though, brilliant aircraft. Really enjoy it in sim albeit presently minus the additional sound pack.

Another one sadly gone…

Both packages updated.

I thought it was odd that they would update the expansion without the base. I usually get notifications through for both though.

Yes, I had the same thoughts, even though this is my first update after purchase. Actually I purchased the expansion this morning and a couple of hours later this update came out  I’ve got a notification about the base package update later on, so I guess it was just stuck at SimMarket.

The MD-82 is now shutting off the fuel (and disarming the spoilers for what it’s worth) every time I pause the sim, in flight or on the ground. It’s happening to me every time now. I haven’t updated and I don’t remember this happening before. Sim Update, maybe?

I bought the MD82 on release..and all it has been doing is collecting dust in my hangar.

I am now in the process of learning to fly this aircraft. Every time I attempt to get it out of my hangar..I am learning to fly another aircraft, then maybe order the expansions and the TFDI MD11.

It’s my favorite. It doesn’t have the polish of the 737, but it’s a lot of fun to fly. I’m only now diving into the deeper aspects of flying and using all of the FMC functionality.

2024 would be a great opportunity for a refresh, Leonardo  I’d pay for a pre-EFIS cockpit as well.
