Shared cockpit/multiplayer

Well, I meant it like Asobo was saying that they were going to add shared cockpit in msfs 2020 3 years ago, thats what I meant. :expressionless_face:

I am still lurking around since i voted for this 4 years ago. They added it to the wishlist soon after but it went never beyond ā€œplannedā€

Lets face it: Probably budged got cut since MFSF is 4 years old now and probably its not worth the effort since this seems to be a major update for them (i would really like to hear a statement of the devs explaining why its such a big deal for them)

This is frustrating. I always was a fan of flight-sims and when msfs20 came out i even got myself some hardware + the setup

I had a lot of fun with my friend figuring out stuff and we couldnt wait for coop.
Initially we tried the shared cockpit mod. It was not immersive and buggy so we placed our hopes in this thread but yeah well. So i will just continue to look inside here every once or twice a year but i dont expect anything anymore

I guess this expected feature rely on the ability to read and write specific aircraft all range variables, like those to be used in cockpit builders rig, just also like for sharing them in cooperation modes with cockpit sharing, which isn’t the case at the moment and have also already been requested. When the pre-requisite will be fulfilled, I think interested work could start for this greatly awaited feature … Would be great to get it natively and rather than with an external addition !!!

That was always my educated guess, that the complete set of simvars currently being worked on by WT is a prerequisite for shared cockpit being finalised/released, in order for there to be full native support for all aircraft

Well that makes me wonder how aircraft with completely custom lvars like the 737 will work then.

Natively to me means all built in aircraft can do it, but not necessarily available in the SDK or fully supported for 3rd party planes; Hit or miss so to speak

If (big if) WT is working on that, I would hope they create a pathway for 3rd party shared cockpit support. Would seem shortsighted not to. Y’know like an attribute in the SDK for your lvars to take advantage of shared cockpit features.

Then it’s on the onus of the 3rd party developer to create that support. After all, MSFS is a sandbox: if they don’t wanna support shared cockpit or the plane has no need for it, they won’t tick the box or whatever

But I’m not a software developer, what do I know?

Let’s add another voice shouting into the wilderness. Please include shared cockpit into 2024! Even if it’s just as observer copilot or passenger. When I used to fly in the real world, my friends used to love coming along. The same is true in this virtual world. I get asked often if it’s possible for someone else to put on my other Quest headset and come along for the ride. Some of those people might enjoy it so much that they buy MSFS!

I think it’s planned but not at the launch. I think I saw 2024+

Yes - it is #7 in the current Lifetime Wishlist: Planned for MSFS 2024+

This feature was planned for the last 4 years. The fact they say 2024"+" means they dont have any concrete plan let alone any development.

Dont get your hopes up that this will ever be a thing. If they dont integrate this at lunchtime i dont think it will ever come.

Maybe another 1 000 votes would help.

It was stated in a Q&A that the feature required a rework of the multiplayer code.
It make sense since they might not have had the time to plan this kind of thing early on when they inherited the project and started getting things up to par.

FS24 has a lot of code re-write so i feel more confident in the development of the feature this time around. Given the feature needs a solid network architecture, sync of a multitude of variables and many unique edges cases to keep simulations in sync/parallel, the coding challenges are pretty large and require that amount of time.

Asobo would have had the opportunity to get this planned out early enough in the FS24 development to have a go at it, and I hope we will get some news from them soon, even if its just a timeline or a feature discovery series at a future date. Its a difficult system to engineer and Asobo often dont get enough praise for the variety and complexity of issues they have to work with, while in a fast pace software development environment.

When you sit in your first flight lesson it’s always with your teacher. Just can’t get my head around why you wouldnt put more focus on this feature.

There would be literally no better way then to introduce someone to FS24 via Coop.

Anyways its no use to discuss about how some more variables that need to be synchronized is a big deal. Only future will tell. Just leave some more votes here.

Most needed feature by far. I’ve been waiting for it to happen since this game launched. Useful as a training tool, useful just as a fun way for two people to play together if one of them isn’t too savvy about flying. It’s unbelievable that more weight isn’t being put behind this. Sure, cities looking more photorealistic is great and all, but this is a core feature that is flat out missing.

Please Asobo and Microsoft, when you launched MSFS2020 you thought VR is not that important and it turned out to be and you implemented it.
Consider Shared cockpit! Consider ways to bring people together especially in this world that tears itself appart.
And don’t forget about multiplayer coms for same reasons.

Statement from Jƶrg Neumann
Jƶrg Neumann’s statement on that matter.

It’s not gonna be shipped with the release of 2024.

I am quiet disappointed. It would be nice to know until when it will be done. Why not make these words belivable with a deadline if you gonna do it anways (for sure).

People wait for this.

For my part i will probably not buy until this is done. Otherweise i can stick to the 2020 part.

Agreed. But there’s plenty of planes to keep me busy until then.

And to be fair, I’m glad they’re waiting to bring something polished as opposed to something that, in the immortal words of Todd Howard, ā€œjust works.ā€

I’m quit worried they’ll develop it as they’ve done replay mode and it will be hardly used by anyone and they’ll just double down on it.
So instead of polished maybe they should give us something and go from there. They should not invest in it and call it a day if it’ll not work.
This would be a perfect first step Passenger-version of MSFS to break the isolation - Official Microsoft Flight Simulator / Wishlist - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums Please vote
After this allow some actions to be done in the plane…

I’ve seen that thread. I don’t care for it. Neat concept but its novelty would wear out quick.

That said, If they can do shared cockpit with just two people syncing the systems well, then that opens the door for say a third person to be a flight engineer in older planes and n number of clients connecting to one person who just look out the window beyond that.

It’s not a feature you want half cooked either way.

That’s what people asked for replay mode…if we can just record the flight and use it for videos…and what we got…
It’s surprising to me that they’ll actually deliver seasons

Since fs2024 allows people to get up and walk around why not just combine both ideas? Allow friends to climb into any seats of your plane, and go from there. If it’s a 4-seater there is no reason 4 people should not be able to get together, get into the 4 seats, and fly together.
