What did you do in MSFS today? (Part 2)

Following on from yesterdays currency flight, I operated U22893 from Cardiff to Dubrovnik in G-EZOA, the Easyjet Holidays liveried A320. Sunrise over the Austrian Alps was stunning, following by an incredibly scenic arrival along the Adriatic Sea coastline in clear conditions. :wales: :croatia:

If I ever needed proof that MSFS remains at the forefront of flight simulation, this flight delivered it. Airport scenery at DBV is from Inibuilds and currently on sale in the Marketplace!

First flight in 2024 with the Cessna Citation Longitude, from Adak (PADK) to Cold Bay (PACD):

Starting the climb to 13,000 ft after takeoff:

Amak Island, descending to the RWY 15 approach at Cold Bay:

Well, the runway is supposed to be dead ahead according to the map!:

Well, it’s there, in the gloom. The approach lights are non too bright. You can just see them if you look real close:

A smooth landing and a long taxi to the fuel station ended my 1 3/4 hr flight today.

I recently read something about the ferry flights of the Twin Otters, which served in the RNoAF from the 60s onwards, from Toronto-Downsview :canada: to Oslo :norway:. After some planning, a flight was repeated today - but not in MSFS 2020 or 2024 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

All I’ve been doing the last week is programming all my FSR500 cockpit controls in SPAD.

The good: I’m getting better at SPAD programming. It’s really cool to see the controls do what I want, without having to use a mouse.

The bad: I’ve been sitting at a parking spot, and not flying.

I’m about 60% finished, so I’ll take to the skies again soon - until I decide to repeat the process with other planes I want to use. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

What did I do today in 2024?

More career grind

  • Tried to run a few medium cargo missions in the PC12 because it makes so much money. Gave up when the missions kept sending me to 1200ft runway airports with only visual approaches in heavy precip.
  • Grinded Vision Jet VIP missions until I finally got enough to buy my passenger company and an ES30. (The Vision Jet really is a joy in this game – IMO the best career mode plane. Too bad it doesn’t make many credits per hour. A cargo version for medium cargo missions would be incredible)
  • Bought the ES30, started first mission, immediately got a “left gate before departure procedures completed” failure when I entered the cockpit, got my landing gear trashed
  • Disabled live weather and ran PC12 missions to get the 2mil credits required to fix the landing gear on my 7mil ES30 that the bug ruined
  • Tried the ES30 mission again, same result
  • Repeated the repair and failure procedure 2 more times before giving up
  • Tried some VR in between all this stuff and kept giving up because the performance is so poor
  • Barely prevented myself from setting my entire setup ablaze before just giving up and going to bed

I’m glad I got the game from game pass with how many issues there currently are. I’d be incredibly mad if I had paid for it. I really want to buy an edition with more planes but won’t be doing so until the game is stable. As is, I’m still frustrated that my holiday gifts for my sim setup aren’t getting used they way they should because I’m so frustrated with the game, but at least I can go back to 2020 or DCS in the meantime.

I’m sure the devs didn’t want to release the game in this condition and were overridden by the suits. I feel for them having to put it out like this knowing they’d have to deal with all these problems right before the holiday. Still, whatever higher ups decided to launch like this really deserves to have to work over the holidays to deal with the impact. I’m sure they had the data to know how rough this would be and still decided to do it anyway for the EOY revenue.

From: Bell Island Newfoundland
To: Toronto, Ontario

I believe I landed in Bell Island the day before Christmas Eve, decided to do an extended stay. I did think about flying out a few times but just wanted to give my pilot an extra bit of time on the ground.

2020, DF to San Francisco. For some reason Say Intentions would not show stats for my flight plan (I know it was linked to Simbrief). Had to use BATC and half way (at image 6) through the flight I was told to begin decent (400 miles to destination). I prefer BATC’s default voices, but I’d forgot it has done this to me before and its scripted nature does not allow you to point out such gross errors. Say Intentions lets you negotiate with ATC, and is better at calling TOD (closer to the destination). I just ignored the order for 300 miles or so until I got the PMDG TOD and all went well.

Honestly I’m getting tired of people completely downing MSFS 2024. I get it, it’s not perfect and I for a bit stepped away from it since at the start I got frustrated with the game. But the thing that brought me back and using it as my main and only focus for flying is one simple thing that came to mind

"When the testers did what they had to do and tested the game as that was the job, they had everything worked flawless I’m sure. But you can only test with so many people, I don’t think Microsoft or any company employs 100’s of testers just to see how the game will be in real world play. When they finally released the game into the public the only way for bugs to get fixed is users like us to report them and as we report them we can help make this game just as great as the previous game if not better. But ■■■■■■■ and moaning about it isn’t going to fix anything. They folks behind the game have a bug report option in this forum for us to report things such as that. In order to help make it better.

So with that being said, since my pilot is back at his home airport I’m going to move my travel logs from here on out over to my own personal blog so I can get away from this negativity."

Lovely Pics ! That approach into Cork is so authentic looking and reminded us of how verdant and green the Emerald Isle is.

Last flight of the year with MSFS 2020.
Recreated my recent flight EBBR-LIML (A320 instead of the original A319).
MSFS 2020 still makes my jaw drop after with its stable visuals!
