Only 14 trades - wow, lucky bloke ![]()
42B → N89 → N82 Connecticut to New York. Legs #45 and #46 on the USA VFR pilotage cross country after a holiday break.
Did not have “Check for dangerous animals” on the preflight checklist.
I’m wondering if I can make it to the plane before the bear can.
Terrifying
Made it to my destination, but the ramp worker tells me I’m at the wrong airport. I want N82 this is N89. So off we go…
Did not get the NOTAM about barnyard animals on the runway. This is getting ridiculous now.
Looks like they painted the airport name on the roof just for me.
Oh and a passive aggressive message lol
2020, aerial tour of Canarias islands, Tenerife and Isla de la Gomera… The Black Square Bonanza has become a top-ten favorite in my hanger…
PMDG 737 800 from Dallas Love field (KDAL) to Boise Idaho (KBOI)
Continued my trip across Oregon in the Zlin Savage Norden. Fortunately, there was a motel in Unity so I did not have to spend last night in the back of the Norden in my sleeping bag.
Doing the pre-flight inspection:
Heading out over the wide expanse of Eastern Oregon:
Hard to tell from this shot if I’m in Oregon or the high arctic:
My destination was Mahogany Mountain. That’s it, straight ahead:
The airstrip is at the foot of the mountain. The small hamlet of Silver lake is ahead:
The hamet, and highway OR 31 are a helpful checkpoint for VFR fliers:
The airstrip should be by that cluster of houses on the right. I’ll be landing on Rwy 28, though with all this snow it will be hard to tell where it is:
OK, I think I see the outlines of the runway beneath the snow. That large house ahead is is directly in line with rwy 28-10, on the far side of East Bay Road, so I’m going to turn another 15 degrees to 280 and line up with that:
And here we are at Mahogany Mtn. (1JY2). That snowy mound in the distance is Grassy Butte. Time to say hello to the folks in the farmhouse:

Almost finished modifying X14 La Belle airport to my liking, gotta fix some more ground textures and some lighting but it’s pretty much done. anyone who knows La Belle knows the large number of Aerostars that come through for maintenance I presume? but last time I was there (5 years ago) there were about 7 or 8 on the field… I tried to capture that.
That being said, hats off to the scenery devs. this was a lot more work to try and get it close to accurate and this is a small untowered sleepy airport in the middle of Florida, the amount of work that goes into something like a large international airport is wild
Completed the last leg of my Idaho-Oregon trip.
About to start the pre-flight inspection at Mahogany Mtn. (1JY2):
Off we go!. I’m heading first for a quick sight-see over Crater lake National Park:
As we approach, the crater wall is illuminated by the weak morning sunlight. The peak ahead is Cloudcap at 2,444m:
My waypoint is not hard to miss: Wizard Island!
Lot’s of snow in the mountains this year:
About 36 NM south-west from Crater Lake is my destination - Shady Cove Airpark (OG31), where I happen to own a home (in my sim-world). Even snow-bound, our little airpark is easy to spot:
Hmmm. I must speak to the volunteer ground crew. Someone was supposed to have run a snow-blower along the runway this morning:
Still, one more snowy runway on this trip is no big deal. At least my wife was kind enough to clear the snow off our driveway.
Honey! I’m Home!

I published Part 1 of the newest Pee-Wee’s Little Adventure this evening, in which I tour the west coast of Cornwall. You can read it over at Pee-Wee and Nag’s Sky Tours (and Other Thoughts).
(Nag bowed out of this tour, but he’ll be back again soon.
)
Stay tuned for Part 2, in which your heroine crosses the treacherous sea to some silly little islands.
Ooh! Lotus gave me a new toy!
What do tin mining, surfing, and Jesus have in common?
Keep calm and carry on, stubby ork.
Death by dungarees.
I can’t put my finger on it, but something’s…missing.
The other kings said I was daft to build a castle in a swamp.
A mate and I flew out of Akureyri International Airport Akureyrarflugvöllur (AEY) in Iceland and did some sightseeing, returning to Akureyri. Looked fantastic.
N82 → 06N just a short hop between glider bases in southeast New York to do some crosswind pattern work on a smaller runway: 2800x60’.
I think I figured out why I’m seeing bears at these airports. People aren’t properly stowing their trash:
There’s a big sinker coming in over this tree line, so be ready for that.
Go-around:
Did three landings with full-stops and taxi backs due to the shorter length. Managed to not ground loop and kept it on the runway for all three, so that was worth a champagne toast I think
PS. These are default airports!
