Xbox - Disabling the Center Dot Still Retains Its "Lock-On" Function

Agreed! Let’s make a concerted effort to get their attention on this in the next stream. If this matters to you, which it should, please be sure to submit your question as soon as the submission form is opened (usually when the stream is announced).

This thread should be renamed for: “Xbox - Flight Interface - Cockpit interaction system prevents Legacy mode - always revert to Lock mode”

Why this change? I installed fs24 on my PC laptop and it became obvious to me, that White Dot is not a problem, the cockpit interaction Lock mode IS.

  1. When there is a Lock mode selected on my PC laptop, it doesn’t matter if the white dot is ON or OFF, the “lock-on” is active.
  2. When there is a Legacy mode selected on my PC laptop, it doesn’t matter if the white dot is ON or OFF, the “lock-on” is inactive.

Reports already exist:
Cannot select "Legacy" Cockpit Interaction - Reverts to "Lock" (Xbox)
Legacy mode on Xbox

I’ve always had a suspicion that these two issues were intertwined, however obviously with being unable to change the interaction mode on Xbox, it’s impossible to verify.

If what @Maxuss1579 claims is indeed the case on PC, then this setting “bug” on Xbox could be the resolution to this entire problem.

I just wish the devs would pay a little attention to this. I can’t imagine this would be a monumental undertaking to get fixed…

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

I use an Xbox controller on PC (at least for now, until I can invest in peripherals).

I just tried changing to Legacy interaction and it did solve the issue of whatever button is in the center of the screen (where the White Dot is, even if invisible) highlighting blue and sticking or locking on.

The Legacy mode does change mouse interaction slightly - but the on screen mouse pointer changing to directional arrows based on context helps to understand

Nice that it works! Would that it was an option on XBOX

This whole issue is wrongly articulated… It is Legacy mode issue, NOT white dot issue.:thinking:Anyway still good, someone finnaly noticed a year long xboxers struggle….

Thanks for finally getting this logged, Chewwy. Should be a pretty easy repro for the team - Just load up a flight in any aircraft on Xbox, and pan over the cockpit instruments/controls with your controller. Watch them all highlight blue. Then try to set cockpit interaction to “Legacy”, and watch it instantly flip back to “Lock”…

It is a Center Dot issue.

There is an option to enable or disable the Center Dot. This option is separate from the interaction type. However, regardless if you enable or disable the Center Dot, the center of the screen still locks on to objects. So the Center Dot can only be disabled visually but not functionally.

This bug was also present in MSFS 2020 for a while, but it was fixed in one or two Sim Updates.

White dot is just graphic visibility setting. The Legacy/Lock settings control wheter the freelook locks-on in cockpit (with our without white dot). Pls read my upper fs24 pc version experiment.

This bug in fs20 was fixed in su13 :person_shrugging::rofl::person_facepalming::person_facepalming::person_facepalming:

In 2020 I never had to change the cockpit interaction system to Legacy. Simply disabling the Center Dot removed its lock-on functionality as well (after fixed, of course). On a controller it’s never been a thing to consider. Legacy interaction was only a thing for mouse players. The two things are different.

You are comparing FS 24 with fs20 that’s not my attitude, they are different products. I am comparing fs24 PC with fs24 Xbox version, which should share same settings and functionality. The PC version demonstrate the proper logic of settings - Legacy mode disables “lockon” and distrubute the interaction to mouse. PC fs24 version which works as intended is the only proper comparison for the broken fs24 Xbox version.

Anyway I hope that Msobo will finally solve this problem in either way your way or my way… :person_shrugging:

There’s a separate topic for not being able to change to Legacy mode on Xbox.

That’s not the problem here, it’s only a workaround. Lock mode should disable interaction when the cursor is not on screen. That’s the problem.

@Ploodovic is right on this - They are definitely two separate issues.

I think their correlation comes from the instinctive thought to change the cockpit interaction mode to circumvent/work-around the bug. But ideally, cockpit interaction in 2024 should be exactly as it is in 2020; White dot disabled = no cockpit interaction unless highlighted by your mouse cursor or cursor mode on your controller, regardless of Lock/Legacy. The position of solely your freelook camera should not be interacting with any cockpit elements.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the updated reports regarding this. We’ve been able to gather enough information for the testing team to now log this as a bug. This topic has been updated and is now marked as bug-logged.

@Chewwy94 That is awesome news! My love for this sim is often spoiled by this one flaw. Thank you!

We have a new SU coming any minute now. What are the chances XBOX users will finally have access to the “Legacy” and “Lock” options? Bets anyone?

Bet, fix wont be included :money_bag: I’m not going to event reinstall fs24 until confirmation they finnaly fix this shameful case.
Update:

seems like I won

One year of updates and still no fix.
