Simming on console saves a TON of money and this hobby is not cheap. It protects me from myself.
I do enjoy configurations and tweaking my system, but I am not flying when I do that. I do enjoy my GA cockpit and some of it won’t (yet) work on console.
I spend less on upgrading my console because there are fewer things to purchase. I buy fewer add ons.
Never once have I stopped and thought, “You know? What really ruins MSFS on XBOX for me is that an XBOX isn’t a PC!”
The comparison between PC and XBOX tends to overlook one key factor. Go buy a $500 PC, download MSFS on it, load it up, take a flight, and THEN tell me XBOX is limited.
I know my aging Subaru isn’t as fast as my buddy’s Tesla. But I also know I got more car than they did for my money. And my buddy is smart enough to know I understand the difference between their car and mine without them having to flaunt their amazing and superior 0-60 performance every time one of us mentions cars.
For all those complaining about Xbox, I’ve since moved to high end PC for VR flights, believe me PC are not particularly stable with MSFS either, I’d go as far as to say I’ve had more CTD on PC hen I ever had with my initial series S and latter Series X.
ha, this is an interesting take on yes, but mainly for me it is the not willing to spend
the money for a good enought pc. i do like to buy the addon aircraft tho.
The other guy you responded to said it rocks, so he enjoys it, you basically came along with your elitist pc master race talk and called his claims nonsense.
Im not disagreeing with some of your points though.
I work in audio so I run Macs because of their boring stability. And they are not cheap! So to invest in a gaming PC? Oof!
Consoles, like Apple, work within a walled garden. You don’t get as much control over things but everything just works.
I have some gear that only works on PC, some add ons and whatnot… but I have to run it through Boot Camp on an Apple Intel MacBook and Apple notoriously doesn’t focus on gaming with their hardware. And you know?! Chasing FPS on a midddling PC is fun in its own way, but time consuming. And I am just too compelled to do it.
But it is the type of PC that looks bad in comparison to a Series X.
I mean, MSFS is still stunning on my laptop, but not like that glorious Series X 4K!
Horses for courses I guess. This is one of the aspects of PC ownership that I actually enjoy the most.
I own and game on both console and PC, they both have their place “in my world” so I don’t really get the “either/or” arguments for gaming in general, however my personal choices with regards what title I play on which platform usually come down to which peripherals I would like to use for a certain title and whether I want a highly modded experience or if I can live with the plain vanilla game.
Just because it doesn’t fit your version of truth or narrative, doesn’t make it “elitist”.
I’ve been simming seriously since FS2004 all the way to P3D v4. Tried MSFS on XSX. And now went back to MSFS on PC. So how does that make me “elitist” if I gave Xbox a fair try? Does it occur to you that maybe I’m speaking from personal experience? Sorry if it bursts your bubble but Xbox is a long way from being a sufficient platform for serious flight simulation.
It’s comments like these “ Sorry if it bursts your bubble but Xbox is a long way from being a sufficient platform for serious flight simulation.” that come off as elitist. Hate to tell you but playing this GAME on a PC does not make it any more of a serious flight simulation. Sure you might have a few more third party add ons but at the end of the day the game experience is not much different. It’s still the same game.
You want a real flight simulator experience, go purchase a real simulator like the Redbird. Simulators | Redbird Flight
My main problem with computers right now, is a 6mo release $400 video card will run you $1500 instead of $275 where it should be by now as computer hardware is outdated before it makes it to your house. Even amazon and newegg will gank you hard and pass you around to their friends. Xbox is still at the same $499 it’s been the entire time. In 5 years games will perform better on it. If my daughter walks down the stairs when I’m flying on a Sunday while there’s still actual daylight out, I unplug my flight desk, move it to the side, light up another controler, push the tv against the wall and have Raymon legends or Pixar Rush up in less than 1 minute…
For the ultimate commercial airliner ‘rush’, sure you can go nuts with a PC and a tons of add-ons, plan out the flight, take off, enable autopilot, go outside and mow the lawn, make hot dogs for the kids on the grill, play catch with the dog, and when your alarm on your phone goes off you can go back down, watch the plane still flying itself and within a 1/2 hour or so you may touch the controls and land it(or watch it land).
For a 45 minute hop to the bahamas or some floatplane time in the keys, or just doing a bunch of touch and go’s, bush trips, finding your house in a 1930’s biplane, or just dive bombing between buildings in NYC, there’s really zero difference between xbox and a computer. Before the S/X released, however, I would say no comparison, computer all the way.
