It would be a problem because if he updates any singular season in the 4 pack version or multiple seasons version, it would have to be updated on the Marketplace as well. It’s just not a good idea period what Microsoft is trying to pull, and @bijanstudio already said if that’s what they’re doing then he’ll just stay with SimMarket, which makes more sense especially how fast he does updates and patches. Microsoft is pretty slow on the uptake in regards to that.
Thanks for checking this so quickly. I checked my communities folder and found that I had the Trees_Distance_Draw_Fix mod running, which is conflicting with your mod. I now switched this off and the world looks beautiful again thanks to your great Seasons mod! Thanks again!
@bijanstudio is there any way to increase the draw distance with your mod though, but without increasing LOD all the way to 200? I used to have my LOD at 100 using the Tree Distance Fix, but now that I cannot use the fix anymore my draw distance is much less. Thanks again!
The Trees_Distance_Draw_Fix mod you had in your community stopped working couple of months ago. It wasn’t working anyway after the sim update. It’s a well know issue.
At the moment the best setting is lod 200 and trees set to ultra.
We’ll see how it plays out once I get more information.
Which is why I said only if MS commits to timescales, if not then it’s a choice to walk away from the store but that will impact sales for Xbox which is all within MS’s control and Bijan will make his decision based on all that.
From the recent developer QA:
“ Regarding tree improvements, they went back to footage of the pre-order trailer and used that as reference to rework the tree draw distance after tweaking the size of different species. They will expand the possible tree draw distance once they optimise the engine more.”
Interestingly, in another thread, someone has noted that the tree draw distance at the equator is double what it is in Finland.
That sounds like a bug to me.
It is not a problem of being “double” the distance (although in this particular case it might just be double by pure coincidence).
LOD distances are changing with COS(LAT) factor but they shouldn’t, and I’ve reported this since April at least:
PSA: Performance problems with latest update might be rooted in Trees (calling for feedback) - #23 by CptLucky8
Yes, this was actually discovered by me initially ![]()
Asobo has yet to acknowledge that despite being reported several times by several members.
Looking at the tree heights in the species vegetation file, I see no evidence of any size adjustments with this update. They must be saving it for a future update, perhaps the DX12 enhancement where tree draw distance could be conceivably doubled or more.
I’m going to go against the general consensus here (which apparently I seem good at doing) and say I think you definitely should be trying to get your mod into the MS Marketplace. Now understandably I realize the issue of wanting to make sure you can issue timely updates and patches but if you can get this mod to a state where you can say give a new version every month or so, then i think the Marketplace would be fine. I think it would be good for the community as a whole if they could buy it from there. Many players don’t know about SimMarket, let alone even come to the forums and are missing out on this great mod. Also I cannot fault you for wanting to maximize the sales of this mod. It’s a nobel cause to put profit behind issuing many updated and customer experience but I believe you can find a nice middle ground between those and bring your mod to the Marketplace.
@bijanstudio has already stated that if Microsoft is going to only allow the mod to be updated on the Marketplace first and nowhere else, he’s not going to be uploading it there, plain and simple. The way he updates and patches and fixes things just doesn’t work with how slow Microsoft is at rolling out updates and stuff. They also are only going to allow one season at a time to download as opposed to the multiple season packs he has, which doesn’t make sense either. He’s able to fix it and adjust it and add more stuff at a much faster rate than what Microsoft is capable of.
I’m going to go against the general consensus here too. I believe Bijan is all grown up now and wears big boy pants. Best let him decide for himself and butt out of things which have absiolutely nothing to do with us.
Everybody can have his own point of view, but as already said, Bijan did the work and he has to decide, what is best for him. And don’t forget, we are all spoiled by Bijan’s service and speedy update policy, but we could stand, waiting a few weeks for an update .
Yeah, I agree, getting onto the Marketplace store is probably going to be great for him financially and greatly increases his exposure. Not having to update weekly will probably be better for his work-life balance. Let him do what is best for his own interests, we are getting plenty of value already.
I’m not sure if you guys understand, but the way it was worded by Microsoft is that if he updates on the Marketplace, he won’t be able to update anywhere else until it gets updated on Marketplace first, which could take weeks or longer at a time. SimMarket is the fastest way for him to get updates out, and the mod being on the Marketplace won’t allow it to be simultaneously updated on SimMarket as well so people who bought it from SimMarket will have to wait for Marketplace to update and they’ll be sorely and understandably ■■■■■■. The way he has it set up now is perfectly fine, things get updated the way he wants them and at the pace he wants it as well, but if it gets put on Marketplace I guarantee it’s not going to go well because first and foremost Microsoft is thinking of their bottom line, not what the creator of the mod wants to do. They’re a business and want money. I don’t know why you guys aren’t listening to what he said previously. He was saying that if Microsoft does indeed do that, he won’t be uploading it to Marketplace and it’ll stay on SimMarket. Those are @bijanstudio words.
I understand what he said, I think what I (and maybe others) are thinking - if the mod is getting updated once a month say, and he’s getting a LOT more revenue for it at the same time - that’s not a bad thing? I’ve already gotten more than my money’s worth in this mod, and if there were no further updates at all, that statement would still be true. YMMV.
Yes, we get that. We’re just understanding that a man working all hours around the clock to put together updates that he releases on a whim and responds to user feedback in realtime is not the usual business practice for good reason.
If Bijan has the opportunity to make a lot more money, and get more exposure for his app by working directly with Microsoft, and selling on their store then he shouldn’t feel that can’t do that because a few existing owners of his mod won’t to be able to message him at all hours of the day and expect a personal response.
If he is able to make more money and doesn’t need to be as responsive to customer feedback, and he wants that then we should be happy for him, and if he genuinely prefers to sell on simmarket where he targets far fewer potential customers, but can tinker and play with his mods to his heart’s desire and upload content as he wishes then that’s great too.
But it should be his choice to do what’s in his own best interest. At the end of the day, his mod is one amongst thousands at this point and he shouldn’t feel compelled to be more responsive than all other developers and limit his market to one single store to appease his most hardcore and demanding customers who have already bought the product and aren’t even a current source of income for him.
Let him do what is best for him is what I’m saying. I’m happy with bi-monthly updates if he’s earning a better living because of it.
People aren’t even going to get the entire mod in the first place because Microsoft is only allowing one season at a time to be sold as opposed to the multi season pack, so that’s also going to limit things as well. People will get a portion of what the mod truly offers, not the entire thing, and at the rate Microsoft does it, it could be months before the entire mod is even on the Marketplace. Also, if people aren’t aware of SimMarket then what’s to stop people from letting others know about it? Things spread fast through word of mouth as well. I’m just saying, I’m not going to buy the mod a second time from Marketplace when I’m already satisfied with the way it is on SimMarket. I mean, if @bijanstudio really wanted exposure, it’d also be put on Flightsim.to since that’s where a ton of mods are in the first place, not on the Marketplace. The Marketplace is severely behind in terms of what mods are on there in the first place. The only difference is that 99% of the mods on Flightsim are free, but people can make donations to the modders on there, which a lot of people do. I’m not telling him what to do or anything like that, I just don’t think it’s a good idea for it to be on Marketplace due to their greedy practice of ‘if the mod is on our Marketplace, only WE can get the updates first and nowhere else’ and it could take weeks or longer to have it updated on places like SimMarket, where it was originally. As someone that bought it on SimMarket, like everyone else, I would NOT be happy with this and I would not want to wait on Marketplace to have it updated, which would also mean that I’d have to buy it a second time just to have the updates. That doesn’t make sense to me in the least.
