I would be wary of following that advice without some strong evidence that proves it actually makes any difference at all.
For example, moving a copy out of there first, not deleting it, then copying it back if it makes no difference. That’s assuming you can easily restore the profile data that way.
Going on two weeks since SU9 beta was released and I still haven’t had a single crash. I don’t have any addons except for the WT G1000 NXi though, which is basically an official addon at this point.
I had direct CTDs at startup last week, with kernel and VCRUNTIME140.dll error messages; did all recommandations (addons off, desinstall/reinstall MSFS steam version, updated nVidia drivers, checked audio drivers, files integrity, etc.); I then disabled the Steam overlay, the game saves in the Steam cloud, saved and deleted the 1250410 folder mentionned above. The game started normally, did some update and brought me back to the configuration screens (steeings, preferences, etc.) like day one. No problem since. More info about this 1250410 would be useful: you don’t want to paste back the file that caused the crash…
This is where i got this idea from: CTD related to steam userdata
I’m willing to bet that your issue was a USB device. Further, I would guess that if you had disconnected all external peripherals except your mouse, and keyboard, that the sim would have started normally.
That number you list is the app. ID for MSFS on Steam:
I was having constant CTDs and I deleted all my yoke and throttle configurations. This solved it for me so far. Slowly rebuilding them for each plane now.
That is effectively what the suggestion above would do, but much more than that as well. The trick then is how to get in to the sim to be able to delete the profiles.
One way is disconnect all controllers, then plug them in after the sim has started.
Another is much fiddly, involving putting the sim into offline mode so you can remove the profiles in a way that stops them from being downloaded from the cloud again.
Thought I would add one additional data point to this discussion. Since recently returning to MSFS after a long break I started having frequent crashes including total computer freezes and CTDs with and without error messages. There didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason. I tried all the traditional steps to isolate, to no avail.
Then I remembered a situation from a long time back with a competing sim platform where it was my CPU overclock causing the problem. That said, I de-clocked by about 3% and all is well. Stable and solid. Not sure if this will last since this is also related to CPU temps, but right now they are stable at 66*C.
There are so many possible causes for CTDs, but sometimes it is our own equipment/configuration and not the simulation. Hope this helps someone out there.
I did disconnet all USBs but mouse & keyboard as it is recommended, to no avail. Same CTDs followed.
I just started then quit MSFS 5 minutes ago and I see some files in the 1250410 foder were updated (e.i. datausage), so maybe there were files corrupted at some stage last week…
Ultra is more demanding since SU-7. Check reliability monitor, if it was excessive heat you get “hardware error”. Make sure you put a vsync on e.g. 20 or 30 FpS if you have a 10xx, 16xx or 20xx GPU.
I run really low end (MX330) Ultra goes into loud fan noise. I don’t normally use Ultra, except for screen shots.
When I switch to Ultra to make a still (screen shot), I can’t leave it on for more than 30 seconds, I get this,
I dont think the question is whether you added anything after the uypdate but if you added any BEFORE ever, that the changes these updates bring now are not compatible with. Updates bring changes and are all tested against the non addon, vanilla flight simulator.
It is the only way MS can do this. This is why they warn about any existing addons which may no longer be compatible.
I genuinely see no way this can ever be avoided. But clearing your Community folder as you have probably found might greatly improve the issues.
But this has bveen said many times, but still people post here suggesting the Simulator has broken something. Depending on how you look at things, you can take that view.
I had similar issues myself. CTD’s, unable to update etc. The problem actually had absolutely NOTHING to do with the sim or any addons, it was windows 10. It urns out that if you have an original version of windows prior to version 21H1 the windows updater does not necessarily get all the updates. My problems got so bad I wiped both my windows and flight sim drives and started again. This time flight sim would not even install after I thought I had all the windows updates. After a chat session with a tech from Microsoft, he sent me a link for an app that forced windows to get ALL the updates. ( it downloaded quite few ) After this the xbox app, gaming services worked and Flight Sim downloaded without an issue ( takes over 10 hours here in Australia ! ). An added bonus is that my computer is all of a sudden now suitable for the Win11 upgrade !!

I understand how frustrating this can be, and there are a multitude of reasons this may be happening but, if you are running with a CPU overclock, check out my post above. It is just one of many possible solutions, but in my case it worked. Good luck.
My CTD problem is no where near as bad as many of the post in this topic report. Mine are occasional maybe one or two a week. Just enough to be upsetting especially when they occur at the end of a beautiful flight. Yesterday I went into my BIOS to adjust my overclock settings. My motherboard, a Gigabyte, has options for preset overclocks for my CPU. One of the options is AUTO. I chose that one to see what the effect would be. It lowered my overclock from 4.8 NHz to 4.3. So far temperature readings have been more steady and lower. I did a 1.5 hour flight last nite to test it and all went well. I am hoping for the best. I may go a week before a CTD occurs or it may be tonight. I have gone back to normal operation (not safe mode) But I still have only the two FlyingIron warbirds in my community folder and I am still flying the XCub.
Next Day:
Made another 1.25 hour flight tonight No CTDs. Good frames in the high 30s. Highest average temp was 124*F
