[FS2024] Night lights are being faded on only one eye at certain angles (video)

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

At some angles, when we tilt our head or make turns in flight, the city lights are being hidden at some angles. The most curious and most annoying thing is that this happens in only one eye, causing a very strange discomfort.

Since the problem only occurs in the left eye, I made the recording using that side to show the problem. The same thing has never happened in any other simulator I use (P3D, FS2020, X-Plane11/12)

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

Already tested with no mods, (community renamed) It also happens with default airplanes

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

every time on sim especially when flying into thin clouds.

REPRODUCTION STEPS

The video shows how it happens.

Yes I noticed this last night in vr, there was a strange cloud base while in live weather, if I tilted my head left 45 degrees it disappeared, back to horizontal returned, tilt right still there

I see it flying straight and level. One eye see the lights on the horizon under the clouds and the other does not see the lights under the clouds.

I am also seeing two different wakes when landing the Goose in the water.

Yep I also have this issue with Pimax Crystal OG (5800X3D, 4090, DLSS)

For me it’s the left screen that has more transparent clouds so can see the city lights underneath but the right screen shows more cloud cover

The lights in the far distance disappear in the left screen when rolling to the left and reappear when levelling out same as the video above

Night flying with significant weather on is impossible in VR like this. Varjo Aero.

I have the same issue, not just with lights, but also with the “density” of clouds, with a cloud being denser and less translucent in one eye vs the other.

Yes, I have same issue with my quest 3, 13900kF 4090

I have the same problem with Quest as well. This was observed in MSFS 2020 with a different way. Aircraft lights in the distance were not visible until you tilt your head some degrees. I think this is kind of similar.

Same here, Pimax Crystal left eye sees clouds and lights differently to right eye, thought my headset was broken!

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Description of the issue:
When flying in VR at night, clouds cover the ground lights differently per each eye. This results in a weird effect, where e.g. the left eye can see the road lights through the cloud, while the right eye only sees the cloud.

[PC Only] Did you remove all your community mods/add-ons? If yes, are you still experiencing the issue?

  • Yes, the issue persists

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE

How often does this occur for you (Example: Just once, every time on sim load, intermittently)?

  • Every time

REPRODUCTION STEPS

Please list clear steps you took in order to help our test team reproduce the same issue:

I’ve not tested myself, but looking at the video it would appear that the sim is calculating whether the lights should be ‘shown’ based on the position of only the left eye, so when that is below the line of the bottom of the windshield the lights get ‘turned off’. But of course the right eye is much higher because the head is on its side and can (should be able to!) therefore see the lights!

You can see similar effects with reflections in the water, so maybe lights and reflections are done with a shader pass which is ‘2D only’?

Just theorising… Happy to be told I’m wrong!

Same here!! Very discomforting. Also having trouble hitting switches with the mouse. Especsially in the PC-12. Closing right eye helps… But no thanks

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged

Same here (Varjo Aero, Win 10, 64GB RAM, 9800X3D and RTX 4090)

It’s absolutely horrific to fly in VR at night with this bug, you almost get headaches by it because your mind doesn’t know on what to focus. Altough the video shows it nicely, I made another screenshot where you can clearly see the difference between left and right eye where on one eye the cloud layer is covering the city lights and on the other one it isn’t:

It’s even worse if one of them laser-show like airports with the bright blue taxi are shining through on one eye and are covered by clouds on the other.

Please make this a priority, as there’s other bugreports that most likely have the same core issue, e.g. :

So it is apparent also in MSFS 2020 and reported in last May, then feedback logged. No fix until now. We have the same problem in 2024 now and feedback is logged. Will this be ignored as well or not?..

So how do we get this bug on this list? I like to fly at nights in vr but it’s nauseating with this bug, I’m surprised there’s no priority over this at all :unamused:
