Significant Number of Flattened Auto-Gen Airports

I’ve been generating a number of bug reports for fully flattened auto-gen airports.

Is there a sim-wide issue at play here, or should I just continue to report these individually as I discover them?

Did they used to have buildings there and suddenly they are all flat?

I cannot answer that.

Many of these I’ve only flown to for the first time.

Others it’s been so long that I just don’t recall, but in the case of KOVE, I’m pretty sure it never had buildings.

Of the ones that we’ve logged on the forums, some of them have turned into bug reports which is great, but I do think the majority of them will be prime airports for the upcoming World Hub.

I turned in a bug report for 1O2 4 years ago since there isn’t a single building at the airport in FS even though there are several rows of hangars, a restaurant and numerous other buildings in real life. The Bing satellite image shows the buildings but on the ground they are flat. I am surrounded by numerous, uncontrolled airports and all of them at least have auto-generated buildings except for 1O2.

I landed here twice this year – in May and July – and I did not note flattened structures at that time. However, today they are flat.

This cannot be a coincidence. There has to be something wrong with the auto-gen engine, because I just keep finding these everywhere in California and I have to imagine they are elsewhere, too.

The latest reports have been tagged with “world-hub-candidate”, which is nice and all, but the basic aspect of having any structures for ALL of these airports is going to fall on the community to fix?

I don’t understand this. There are many airports that have auto-gen buildings. My bug reports are not complaints of a lack of photo realism with perfectly matched buildings, I’m just talking about the sim auto-generating some hangars and basic structures here as seen in satellite imagery and that the sim is already doing for many airports already.

I fear you (Microsoft) are dumping this on us. That isn’t right.

I just landed here and discovered this has been going on since, at least, '21.

CL56: Ranchaero Airport, Chico. CA - Bug Reporting Hub / Scenery and Airports - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

What I do not understand is why the auto-gen engine is able to render towns, cities, farms, out-buildings, etc., but is fouling up rendering airport structures.

Could someone with some level of authority please get all this to the devs in charge of the auto-gen engine?

I feel like I’m talking to myself here…

Yet another…

And another:

And another:

KLPC Lompoc Airport Structures Flattened and/or Missing - Bug Reporting Hub / Scenery and Airports - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

To illustrate this isn’t happening with every small auto-gen airport, here are examples of rendered ones:

KKIC – Mesa del Rey

KPRB – Paso Robles Municipal Airport

Flat Airport structure ? Not on my PC
Out of curiosity just “went” to KAUN.
I didn’t see any flat structures there.
It was totally ok with me.
Bye, Walter

Would you be willing to produce a screenshot?

I ask, because every single other one of these that has been commented upon by others is to confirm they see it, too.

Also, there are nearby buildings/structures in the surrounding area that are rendered, but they are not airport buildings.

EDIT:

This is a screenshot of KAUN I just took seconds ago with no mods installed in either the Community folder nor the OneStore folder other than all WUs, CUs and Top Gun (because it is way too difficult for me to determine which of the folders in the OneStore directory belong to those to be able to pull them out manually.)

You are seeing those structures rendered on your PC?:

Thank you.

I know the World Hub is going to be a great tool, however I will hold fast to the belief that the auto-gen engine should be rendering basic structures at airports. It is already doing so at many of them, but more importantly that’s its job and I don’t feel the community is here to do the job of the auto-gen rendering engine.

Thank you, again, Hester!

Hi NixonRedgrave,
YOU ARE RIGHT ! Sorry for the inconvenience.
I did not realize, that the white areas should be buildings. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
Thanks for your engagement !!!

Good luck,
bye walter.

You can add Lampson Field in Lakeport, CA 1O2 to the list. It’s my local airport. I filed a bug report on it missing the buildings back in 2020 but nothing ever came of it. There are many other small airports (some much smaller than 1O2) around me here in Northern California that at least have auto-generated buildings. The area on the left is entirely flat buildings. The area on the right is missing the 8 or 9 rows of hangers completely.

I did a search for your bug, but could not find it (buried in the Alpha/Beta archives?), so I just wrote it up:

1O2 Lamson Field Structures Flattened/Missing - Bug Reporting Hub / Scenery and Airports - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

It’s endless:

O08 Colusa County Airport Structures Flattened and/or Missing - Bug Reporting Hub / Scenery and Airports - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

Further proof that the auto-gen engine can do its job, but oddly the bug is still tagged “bug-logged”:

What a difference a non-flat airport makes for some realism.
