Thank you for keeping this thread going and summing up all the votes. Perhaps the grand finale should be a vote for aircraft of the year?
Here is my top 10 before I splash out on the F-14 and PC-12. Highlights are the updated C-160 Transall, the quirky Latecoere 631 and the wonderfully crafted Avro Vulcan. Lot of great addons as of late. The Dash-7 was a disappointment though.
I voted for the FSR500. The Wilga and of course the Comanche were also top contenders. But the FSR500 is the one I enjoy the most - right now.
Itâs reasonably fast, handles beautifully, sounds wonderful, is value-priced, and Raul (the developer) is showing the rest of the industry the way to handle product support.
Yeah thatâs a bit of a problem with an end of the year vote for the aircraft of the year. The new shiny toys have an advantage. No way to avoid it, just how it is
Agreed. To me that means the aircraft are getting better and better as time goes by. Thatâs a product of a large and informed user base, along with the mechanics of capitalism, and a dedicated and talented group of developers.
Maybe we could have a poll specifically for freeware?
I know there are free planes out there that surpise us with their depth and level of enjoyment.
Heâs a true one man army. I love his attitude. He is so fast to answer literally any question from anyone in any channel, no matter how maybe unreasonable or silly or RTFM the question is - and I think he actually enjoys it too!
Although a watcher on the thread itâs been months since I submitted a list, mainly due to not having had much recreational sim time.
(If any of you are low n slow / bush fliers who also have an interest in history I have been working on something that I hope you might find interesting. More details in JanâŠ).
So, from (mostly) the north of England to Utah, Laos and PNG via racing at Burning Blueâs Thruxton my current list looks like this.
Antâs Tiger Moth
Blackboxâs Bird Dog
Flying Ironâs Spitfire
Dave Garwoodâs Hunter (single seat)
Got Friendsâ Wildcat
Big Radialsâ Norseman
Ariebabaâs Bronco
DC Designsâ Stearman
Blackbirdâs PC6 Porter
Flight Replicasâ L4 Grasshopper
And with a nod to Spinal Tap and @Baracus250
11. Wombiiactualâs Baggage Buggy
Something that has also dawned on me about my buying pattern and the list is that I am drawn to good quality renditions of aircraft I built as model kits as a kid.
Is it just me or are there other UK simmers of a certain age recreating their childhood collections of Airfix, Matchbox and Revell models through the sim?
And - more âjingoisticâ than I would have thought Iâd be - anything designed / built in the UK, and / or in RAF service. DGâs Hunter is the perfect âboyhood dreamsâ example.
I would love a Canberra ⊠even if it has to called a B-57!
Had to pick the Cessna 414, what a joy to fly. Its still my âgo toâ plane in the sim.
There are some other great planes to choose from on the list, some tough choices.
