Aircraft Manager Pro + Location Manager Pro now available

A little late to respond here, but yes – you were perfectly clear, no worries. I was just wondering if you could game the system by teleporting to your user point at ground level, then creating ANOTHER user point from there, the thought being that the new user point would have a zero altitude attached to it. Which I tried. But, of course, it doesn’t work that way, and the new user point will put you at the same 500m height. Stupid sim!

One thing I did note about LM: am I correct that you can’t set the user point to a specific parking spot at an airport? The one I set up for KBED takes me to the middle of the field when I select it. Which is fine, actually - it’s not hard to go and pick the spot myself – but I was wondering if that’s some sort of technical limit imposed by the sim as well.

It doesn’t matter if the custom waypoint has an incorrect height, as the ground/air teleport will overide to to actual ground altitude or 1000 ft above for air.

I covered that in the video in detail. Suggest rewatch for explanation as to why. MSFS does some internal magic to relocate to the parking spot actual coords that I couldn’t access. I guess if I had another “Save Position” button that saved actual latlong vs the parking spot I could do it. Will see, don’t want it to be too confusing though. I’ll be looking at some LM tweaks after I finish off this Weight and Balance Presets.

My take on today’s MSFS 2024 announcement drama.

Tl;dr: All good for MSFS 2020, will likely need to develop a new version for MSFS 2024.

FAQ section @

Q: Will Aircraft Manager and Location Manager work with MSFS 2024?

On June 11, 2023 Microsoft dropped notifcation that MSFS 2024 is coming.
MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2024: THE NEXT GENERATION OF THE LEGENDARY FRANCHISE

Given the lack of detail about content transfer and other obvious questions, they quickly followed up with some clarifying statements:
MICROSOFT FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2024 FAQ

  • Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is a new standalone simulator distinct from MSFS 2020.
  • They will continue to support Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) post the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 launch.
  • With very few exceptions, virtually all add-ons that work in Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) today will function in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

I also pay close attention to the development roadmap and updates, the latest one of this post being “JUNE 8TH, 2023 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE“.

Two features listed on this update are relevant to AM: Aircraft Specific Control Profiles (Planned) and Aircraft Favorites (Under Investigation).
I note also that Asobo has 20+ open job postings for MSFS, some of them being UI specific, such as: “We are opening a Lead UI Programmer position as part of the implementation of a new UI tech on the Microsoft Flight Simulator project.” Asobo Studio – Lead UI Programmer H/F (Flight Sim)

So it seems MSFS 2024 User Interface system is undergoing a complete rewrite for MSFS 2024, and as such AM & LM in their current form will remain as MSFS 2020 addons only due to the changes in the underlying UI framework that will come as part of that. I suspect that the Control Profiles and Favorites noted above are unlikely to be done for MSFS 2020, and they will instead implement it properly as part of MSFS 2024.

Pending more information in the future:

  • MSFS 2020: Aircraft Manager Pro and Location Manager Pro will remain essential addons to improve your UX, as they will keep MSFS 2020 running post MSFS 2024 release. There is nothing announced about back porting this new UI framework to MSFS 2020, which isn’t likely to happen given they are releasing MSFS 2024 with it as a key feature and selling point.
  • MSFS 2024: The MSFS 2020 versions of AM & LM will likely not work on MSFS 2024 (TBC) as it seems as they are developing a completely new UI framework based on lessons learned. I will keep pace with MSFS 2024 developments, and see what value I can bring to it then with a MSFS 2024 specific version of AM and LM.

Hi I have Aircraft Manager Pro from Orbx.

For whatever reason, AMP stopped switching my throttle profile when selecting a different plane.

Troubleshooting…

All worked fine at first. I did edit one of the throttle profiles (in MSFS) for key bindings. It seems that after I made that change, AMP no longer switched to my other saved throttle profiles assigned to other planes. I have to manually load then now in session. I have three controllers assigned under AMP (throttle, stick and rudder). Only throttle has this issue, all other controllers switch to the correct profile depending on the selected plane

Please always use the website for product support: Aircraft Manager for MSFS - Sonicviz (scroll to bottom)
This is a requirement from MS as per forum TOS, as these posts are for general discussion only.

If you scroll to the bottom you will a support form with a required info guide.
Please resubmit info via that channel, with the requested info as described.

Please also read the ACP Known Issues section on the website link to see if any of those apply.

Hi Sonicviz,

I did use the support link that you mentioned and got no response. That is why I came here because I saw that you were active in this forum.

I will send another message through that channel.

Thanks. Let me check it’s not down.
edit: Host changed the SMTP port on me. Fixing.

Meanwhile:
If the other controllers work, logically there’s an issue somehow with the problem controller presets, especially if they did work prior to changing. Sure they are not empty presets, or one of them is?

You could try deleting all presets for that controller, reset the default one (never change that one), create two test ones by duplicating from the default, and test switching works correctly with the new ones.
Before creating the new presets (after deleting the old ones), check in ACP that you only see the blank default listed. Use new names for the test presets as well, not the old ones. Unless you use Delete to delete all current ACP settings to reset the ACP grid, you’ll need to use new preset names.

Apologies MS Mods, triage support while I check what’s up with my email forms.

Update2:

All email forms fixed, tested, and confirmed working properly.
Host had changed the SMTP port without telling me.
Thanks for the notification there, I’d been receiving them quite recently so must have been a recent change on their part. Will ask them about it.

Quick update on what’s “In Development” for the next version for AM/LM Pro:

Aircraft Manager Pro

  • New! Weight and Balance Presets. Includes W&B toolbar.
  • New! Favorite Livery - save/reloads the active livery (aka current favorite) when switching aircraft. No more switch back to default livery when selecting a plane.
  • Added control preset switching message to main AM panel.
  • Font accents replaced by standard letters in name/tags/notes.

Location Manager Pro

  • New! ICAO Airport runways auto saved for configurable landing/take off practice. Teleport to crosswind/downwind/final legs, land, repeat.
  • New! ICAO Airport parking spots auto saved. Just save the airport, & use them in fly mode as teleport locations to cold start.
  • Fixed saved font size to load properly on opening
  • Font accents replaced by standard letters in name/tags/notes.

Wip, no release date atm. Stay tuned.

Location Manager Pro has a big upgrade incoming, in final testing atm.
It’s a lot of fun quickly iterating on landing/takeoffs (combined with changing weight & balance presets) to rapidly work on your skills in a couple of the most key flight phases. Also fully random modes across all settings for extra fun. ILS freq’s included to hone those GS skills too.

Released!

This video tutorial runs through the new repetition and interleaved learning features availble in V1.2 of Location Manager, as well as the new Weight and Balance presets for Aircraft Manager. Other improvements are also touched upon.

Note: OBS failed to capture my mouse cursor during recording, but after watching it back I saw most of the screen interactions are captured by the highlighted UI controls, so it’s still easy enough to follow what I’m talking about, just watch for the UI controls behing highlighted.
It’s not often I do a one take recording that almost works! It was good…training!

Apologies for the mumbling in a few spots, was having come mic placement issues with my boom.
If it gets too many complaints I’ll redo it asap.

Update: Orbx should be available this monday 3/07 or tuesday, takes a little time to go through the system (was sent Friday 30/6).

I discovered this tool (AM) recently and liked the idea, bought pro version from Orbx. This will save me a lot of clicks and time in long run.
I spent few good hours to assigning profiles, liveries etc.
What I really don’t like is that big red DELETE DATA button, which apparently will delete all of assignments of config, liveries, weight and balance presets to aircraft without any confirmation dialog. I can see possibility when I accidentally click on this after alt tabbing or something. Is there any database or config file which I can backup so I won’t need to go through all of this again when this happens? Steam version. There has to be something where it store it’s data.
Second though or suggestion is on Weight and Balance preset. It might be good idea to add possibility to make some preset as default, same as liveries. It would save another few clicks.

Thanks for your purchase.

This is a requirement from MS as per forum TOS, as these posts are for general discussion only.

Also, if you haven’t already done so, please also make sure you read the “Known Issues”, Tips, and FAQ sections at the addon websites, in addition to watching the videos. They contain essential info on how to get the best out of each addon. The tips section also contains information on how to learn them best.

That said, to quickly address your points:

The Delete All Data on the Aircraft Control Presets tab only deletes your controller assignments from the ACP grid. It’s a convenience method for when you are learning how to use the ACP panel and want to quickly clear out your test data and try something else. There is a detailed suggestion guide in the website tips sections on different approaches to using it, which you can use as a starter to devising your own approach that suits you.

There is no confirmation dialog because it’s difficult to do with this integration, so please just be careful.
I’ve never had an issue accidently hitting it, which is why it’s Red and prominent so you can avoid that.

All data in AM and LM is stored using MSFS storage routines and is eventually stored in the cloud with your save file. These can become corrupted (see tips/known issues) but if that happens you have bigger issues. There is no data export/import available at this time.

Reset Liveries button on the main AM tab just clears our your saved last livery data.

Due to how W&B works this is not currently possible. I actually think it’s better W&B isn’t loaded by default (apart from the default setting) as this forces you to check your W&B every flight as a matter of practice. It’s not the same as a livery, which is purely cosmetic. W&B is critical to setting up a flight, and checking it should be part of your SOP (standard operating procedures) so 2 clicks to select the panel and one to load your preferred preset and double check is not an onerous task in my view, it’s a required task, even for casual fun flying.

Thanks for the feedback. Please send any more or issues direct via the website support form.

Happy flying.

Thanks for answer.

All data in AM and LM is stored using MSFS storage routines and is eventually stored in the cloud with your save file.

I though about that, I have not found anything in AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\ where all other local settings are. That makes sense now.

I will not go into discussion if it’s possible to click on anything accidentally after alt tabbing or something (it definitely is, trust me, I work as IT engineer and saw countless of cases of that).

I quite miss the point of that delete all button, because after you reset all assignments, you still have to go through each aircraft and assign each controller to new one one by one. Where it would make sense is if there would be something like mass assignment, where you select multiple aircraft and assign all of them to some preset for particular controller.

Due to how W&B works this is not currently possible.

Ok that is clear to me.

I actually think it’s better W&B isn’t loaded by default …W&B is critical to setting up a flight…checking it should be part of your SOP

I won’t go deeper into that as it’s pointless if it is not possible to implement. But just let’s say there are number of people who setup aircraft same way in 99% of cases, so that would save (another) few clicks and slider pulls. You can preset weights in flight_model.cfg but not the fuel. I agree is pretty minor thing. That is all.

I still think this tool is fantastic QoL improvement and I recommend it to others.

I originally left it out as it was purely for me when I was testing/debugging, but I added it for some debug builds for users when doing some troubleshooting and some of them found it useful for the reasons explained, so I put it back in. If enough people want it out I can remove it np anytime.

Great, enjoy! It’s not perfect, but it’s "good enough":stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Just watched the video and it looks like an interesting product. I noticed that you asked for comments and ideas. The way I’d like to use a system like this would be to set upper and lower bounds for each of the variables. E.g. distance between 5 and 10 miles, height between 1500 and 3000, speed between 80 and 120’; between 0 and 100 degrees from the airport. For the weather, I’d like to be able to tick any number of the presets I have set up and have the system choose and random between the ones I’ve selected. I’d then click the “go” button, and subsequently tune ATIS or get a metar to determine the weather then make an appropriate approach and landing. I guess I could even use the in-game ATC which would should determine the correct runway for the conditions.

Thanks for your input, I’ll add it into the feedback received.

For more detailed info on the randomisation settings you can read the detailed How to best use Location Manager guide @ which expands on the video at bit more: Location Manager for MSFS - Sonicviz

Location Manager has been released for Xbox.

As you need a mouse/keyboard to use it was initially rejected for XBox as it’s not fully controller navigation compliant, but they have decided to let it through for XBox players who have a mouse/kbd setup.

No word on if Aircraft Manager will join it on XBox as yet.

PSA: re: Dune Expansion and Atreides Royal Ornithopter

From my testing Aircraft Manager and Aircraft Control Presets seem to be working ok with the new Dune expansion. Selecting the House Atreidies Orthinopter will switch the the new default orthinopter profiles automatically whether you have them configured in Aircraft Control Profiles or not, and switching to any other aircraft appears to correctly switch to any presets configured for that aircraft in ACP as well.

I set them in the ACP grid as a test and that seems to work fine as well.

So no issues as far as I can tell.

I do recommend restarting the sim once the small update and Dune expansion is installed, as there seems to be a “Loading…” hang in the control options screen (not related to AM/ACP) and you should do this as a matter of practice anyway when installing sim updates, just to be sure things get initialised in the right loading order.

Happy flying!

Onwards to SU15 beta testing!

PS: If you do have any general issues with your control options (ie: NOT Aircraft Manager ACP related) and the Dune expansion I suggest posting them in this thread (where I’ve given my analysis as well): Dune addon Atreises Ornithopter Corrupts Control Options - #8 by Sonicviz

PPS: Reboot MSFS after installing the Dune DLC if you are not seeing your control presets in the ACP dropdown.

PSA: AM/LM SU15 compatibility

I usually wait for a couple of SU beta fixes before installing the beta, but took the jump earlier this time due to some of the improvements in it.

So far AM/LM look aok. If you are also testing SU15 beta please let me know any issues via the relevant support forms @:

Good morning, Please, is your product similar to “FSDiscover” from the old FSX?? Can I create a name for a location in a certain geographic position “Longitude / latitude” and it will appear for me on the map?
