Hi, you can call me: FR8S
Got my Private Pilots License on 2004 but stopped flying in a year because my wife didn’t like it. That’s when I started with FSX, back in 2006 (or 2007, I forget???). Several years later I decided to give it a try again and was going to build my own plane, a Zenith CH750, but then realized we needed a more useful load, so I ended up buying a 1964 Cherokee 180. Loved it and flew it for 3 years before I had to sell it due to moving to an area with no available hangars.
Only played FSX and am looking forward to the latest MSFS24, but first I need advice on building a new system. My budget…. I need to keep it under $3000.
I built my current system back in 2012. Its an ASUS Crosshair V Formula with an AMD 8120 @ 3.1 Ghz, with 16GB RAM and a GeForce GTX970, on a 750W PS. All housed in a CoolerMaster HAF932 full sized tower.
I’d like to reused the tower if possible.
I’ve been looking at the AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, but wondering if its really the right choice???
Also looking at the ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E…. again, not sure if this is the best way to go???
Welcome aboard! I too am a PPL who no longer flys IRL. Next week MS will release System Update 4 which has been in beta for sometime now, and is said to be a game changer for improved performance. This would be a great time to see how folks are finding SU4 on their PCs, noting the various configurations folks have and how they perceive any increased performance.
Alongside this, perhaps search out folks new pc build threads, there are very many, and see where folks have been over the past year or so (for example: Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7GHz, 64GB, RTX 5070Ti: PC set-up tips?). It could be that SU4 breathes new life into old PC configurations, forum posts over the next few weeks should tell! Finally, the kind of flying you want to do is non trivial to spec’ing a new PC. Please feel free to share that so folks can get an idea of what may work for you?
Thanks for the quick reply. I prefer the General Aviation planes and don’t really have any interest in Airliners. Low and Slow is what I’d be doing mostly so I’d imagine that I would be pushing the graphics quite a bit, compared to flying at 33,000 MSL.
I had a lot of scenery add-ons previously, but not sure if they would still work on MSFS24. For a short period of time, I did work for ORBX doing quality control of various sceneries that they produce. It was just too difficult to dedicate the time needed while I was still working full time and raising a family so it only lasted about 6 months.
I am now retired ( after 38 yrs in Architecture) and living my dream in the mountains of far Northern CA in a home I designed and helped build. Now I’m looking forward to getting back into Flight Simming again.
List of my flight sim accessories:
Saitek Yoke System and 3-Lever Quadrant Module
Saitek Rudder Pedals with Toe Brakes
Saitek X52 Flight Control System
Saitek Pro Flight Cessna Trim Wheel
Saitek TPM Panel
Saitek Switch Panel
Saitek Radio Panel
Saitek Multi Panel
Track IR 5 with clip
I used several add-on planes from A2A Simulations, Carenado, Alabeo and the Dodosim 206 FSX. I also used the REX Essential+HD, Worldwide Airports HD, Soft Clouds & Texture Direct HD.
Played a lot of FSX as a teenager, now started playing msfs2024 as it became accesable on PS5. It’s amazing to see how far the Sim have come, although a little buggy.
But thats understandable giving it only released a few days ago. I still enjoy playing msfs2024 very much.
In fact I mostly joined the forum to create a bug report, waiting for permission to post it in correct thread.
G1000 regularly crashes/reboots during all phases of flight (around every 30-60min). Most of the time PFD sometimes MFD. Cessna 172 G1000 with IFR Flight Plan
Greetings … I’m David and I am brand new to MSFS 2024. I’m working with the keyboard and mouse only. Considering buying a joystick, however, would like to solicit advice on which brands/ types to look at for a beginner.
Hi. I am a PPASEL+G and a former avid RC plane builder and pilot. I started out flight simming on a commodore 64 with SubLogic FSII.
I have to say MS2024 is light years ahead of the old Commodore, The flight experience, to me, was better with the SubLogic FSII. You could use the instruments! I am frustrated trying to use or even see the panel in a useful way with MS2024. I find myself using the “follow me” view most of the time to see headind, airspeed, etc. Am I doing something wrong? Any advice appreciated.
Welcome aboard! I too used to fly RC and IRL as a PPASEL with an instrument rating. Yes flight simming has come a long way since then LOL! While it’s certainly ok to use the flight aids, especially when new to the sim and learning one’s way around its many features, wondering if you might share more about “frustrated trying to use or even see the panel in a useful way with MS2024”. Cheers!
Hello everyone, my name is Patrick, and I am based in Canada.
I am playing MSFS 2024 on a Playstation and my LG big screen tv, and exlusively with the Playstation controller. I have no other accessories.
I am 100% new to simming. I even bought my playstation a few weeks ago primarily because of the MSFS release.
Historically I haven’t been a gamer, so I have absolutely everything to learn.
I started simming because I’m pretty much retired, and where I live, winter started early this year, so it’s going to be long.
Also I love to travel and site see, so this will be a nice way to relive some locations I’ve been to.
Also, as a senior I continue to want to challenge my brain and body. Use it, don’t lose it they say.
MSFS appears to be doing that with my brain at least, and looks like it can continue to do that for a long time.
I’ve been taking my time and finding it very challenging even at the basic level. It’s been enjoyable, frustrating, and challenging.
I assume some thats are probably a lot easier for new players that have gamed a lot in the past.
So here we are. I’m enjoying the game, would love to hear from you, and would appreciate any tips you might have.
Thanks very much.
Pat
Welcome aboard! If sightseeing is an interest, good idea to learn how to use the Showcase view controls as a drone camera to take a closer look at points of interest. Sometimes during a flight I will pause and drop down on a POI, then resume my flight. What kind of flying interests you most getting started?
Thanks very much for replying to my post and for the tip.
I’ll try that.
I’m probably most interested in general aviation flying, and am so challenged already, I haven’t looked beyond that.
(those control panels on the big passenger airliners look pretty daunting.) But we shall see.
I am still struggling to land the Cessna successfully in the basic training that I haven’t even got my pilots license yet.
Thanks very much for replying to my post.
Since you are just getting your wings, try learning how to fly “Attitude:”
Pitch Attitude + Power = Performance.
Pitch to an airspeed and use the throttle to control altitude, adding power to climb, reducing to descend. The C150 & 172 are the perfect light singles to gain this essential technique. Airline and other jet pilots fly attitude and so now is the perfect time to form this core habit/flying skill. Have fun!
Got my ch yoke & pedal from storage after 25 years to pass on to my grandson.. Installed 2024. Boy, the world has changed. Now trying to navigate getting the 172 in the air for my first go around.
