Tobii eye/head tracker in SU8

One issue I am noticing is that adjustments I make to the Tobii sensitivity, at least the head position sensitivity, don’t get saved when I close the sim. It’s always back to 0 the next time I start. Anyone else notice this?

Seems to be working fine here - changes stay saved.

Anyone with an Tobii 4C that got it working natively with msfs? Mine is detected in controller settings but no reaction in msfs whatsoever

Be sure to file a bug report so that it can be fixed. In the mean time try using FaceTrackNoIR V200, I’ve been using it for almost 3 months and it hasn’t lost the settings for me. The manual page for Curves explains how to tweak the sensitivities.

Be sure to file a bug report so that it can be fixed. Also post your problem in this thread(and vote for it too): Tobii Eye Tracking needs configuration options. In the mean time try using FaceTrackNoIR V200 as Hester40MT reported that it works with the Tobii 4C:

Just be aware though in his screenshot he had Smoothing set to 20, I’m not sure if that was the default or if he changed it but having a smoothing that high will probably lag a little (Filters: The higher the value, the slower the response). The default smoothing for my Tobii Eye Tracker 5 was 1 so try that first and increase it later.

Already did file a bug report. As for FaceTrackNoIR, I tried out in the days before I broke down and bought TrackIR and most of the time couldn’t even get the application to start, and eventually the dev just gave up and stopped responding to my requests for help. I’ll just reset the Tobii head position sensitivity every time before I touch FaceTrackNoIR again.

FaceTrackNoIR is now at version v202 build# 0011(reported in the FaceTrackNoIR title bar) even though the executable file is called facetracknoir_v200.exe. Try emailing facetracknoir.com@gmail.com with your order number and see if you get the latest version.

You can get SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v203_Tobii5.exe and SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v204a_PluginPack.exe from here and here.

NB: If you use Tobii 4C be sure to download SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v203_Tobii4C.exe instead of SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v203_Tobii5.exe from here.

Be sure to install in this order:

  1. facetracknoir_v200.exe
  2. SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v203_Tobii5.exe OR SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v203_Tobii4C.exe
  3. SetupFaceTrackNoIR_v204a_PluginPack.exe

After installing the latest PluginPack, the version will have been upgraded too.

Observation

  • F12 on keyboard appears too disable Tobii 5 headtracking device, then resets the view to center forward facing.

Expected behavior
-Do not disable headtracking device. Only pause headtracking device and hold current view at xyz.
-Add dedicated key bind for headtracking view reset. Suggest F9 on keyboard.

Does anyone agree with this?

No. F12 resets the view but does not disable Tobii. I do have to hit F12 at the start of every flight to get the view in the right place though which is sort of odd.

Open the camera menu and then press F12. Notice the TRACK IR setting toggle?

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. You described a certain behavior and asked if others experienced it. I don’t experience it so I said no.

At any rate, F12 isn’t mapped to anything except “Liveries” in my sim on the default keyboard profile.

“Toggle head tracking” exists but isn’t mapped to anything.

F9 should be pause headtracking and hold current view
F12 should be reset headtracking to center
The camera menu should not show the toggle on either.
Liveries should now match on all airplanes.

You could bind F9 to Toggle head tracking(it is currently unbound).

F9 “Toggle head tracking” seems to reset the view

Just wanted to check, do your settings save if you select decimal points. For example setting yaw/pitch as 1.25 or head position as 1.75.

In my case, they revert to 1. I think there is a bug that only saves the whole number and not the decimal after that. Please do vote on this thread if the same happens to you:

it’s been tagged with the ‘bug logged’ tag, so no need to vote. It’s already in their system.

Make sure you keep voting so that way the wishlist thread ends up in the top 58 wishlist threads and gets mentioned in the weekly development updates posted here: Microsoft Flight Simulator

For example: visit this development update MARCH 3RD, 2022 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE and then scroll down to FEEDBACK SNAPSHOT and you will see that Tobii Eye Tracking needs configuration options hasn’t made the top 58 yet so keep voting for it.

I posted a workaround for this here: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/making-tobii-eye-tracker-work-with-su8/472111/252

Hello folks, I created a short video on how to fix the issue with forward and backward movement if you are having issue. This will address the issue of folks having F12 assigned to liveries. I am not sure if I can post the video here, but head over to my channel for the tutorial video.

Thank you MortThe2nd for the helpful tips!
